What does it mean to be human when the world is in crisis?

Sometimes, it looks like a hand reaching through the rubble.
Sometimes, it is a meal delivered after a flood.
Sometimes, it is a health worker walking into a community when everyone else is trying to get out.
And sometimes, it is simply refusing to look away.

Today, on World Humanitarian Day, we recognize the people who choose to show up when circumstances are at their worst.
Humanitarian workers operate where crises converge, from conflict and displacement to disasters and the growing impacts of climate change. They do more than deliver aid; they help communities survive, recover, and rebuild with dignity.

But there is an uncomfortable truth: the people trying to protect humanity are increasingly working in a world that is becoming harder to protect.
As climate shocks intensify and humanitarian needs continue to grow, resilience cannot be an afterthought. It must be built into the way we design our communities, policies, economies, and development pathways.

At ECAS Institute- Environmental Capacity & Sustainability Institute Institute, we believe sustainability is ultimately about people. A resilient future is one where communities are not only prepared to withstand crises, but are empowered to thrive beyond them.

So today, we honour the humanitarians on the frontlines, and everyone working quietly behind the scenes to make hope possible.
Because sometimes, humanity’s greatest strength is simply this:
We show up for one another. šŸ¤šŸ½

Happy World Humanitarian Day.

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in global or regional climate patterns, largely driven by human activities.

Since the mid-20th century, burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes have released excessive greenhouse gases, trapping heat in the atmosphere.

Human-induced climate change, including more frequent and intense extreme events, has caused widespread adverse impacts and related losses and damages to nature and people, beyond natural climate variability.

Some development and adaptation efforts have reduced vulnerability. Across sectors and regions the most vulnerable people and systems are observed to be disproportionately affected. The rise in weather and climate extremes has led to some irreversible impacts as natural and human systems are pushed beyond their ability to adapt.

Greenhouse gases cause climate change by absorbing and trapping heat energy in Earth's atmosphere through the Greenhouse effect.

Key gases include carbon dioxide. Human activities like burning fossil fuels increase these gases and warm the planet.

The Heat-Trapping Process

Sunlight passes through the atmosphere and warms the Earth's surface. The Earth reflects this energy back upward as infrared radiation (heat). Greenhouse gas molecules capture this heat and send it back toward the surface. This natural blanket of gases keeps the planet warm enough to sustain life.

Human Impact and Sources

1. Burning coal, oil, and gas releases massive amounts of CO2
2. Clearing forests removes plants that naturally absorb Agriculture and livestock farming produce strong heat-trapping gases like methane and nitrous oxide.

Driving Climate Change

1. Extra gases trap extra heat, raising global average temperatures.
2. Warmer air and oceans disrupt traditional weather systems.
3. Melting ice sheets cause sea levels to rise

FlloCA aims to strengthen local capacities to access climate finance and implement climate projects that are not only impactful but also resilient to climate shocks.

Building expertise in risk assessment and portfolio resilience directly contributes to more sustainable, effective, and scalable climate investments that are aligned with local needs and global climate goals.

The focused two-week training equiped the accountants with practical skills to evaluate climate risks accurately and embed resilience measures effectively into their projects and portfolios.

This intensive learning environment encouraged collaboration, innovation, and the adoption of best practices tailored to local realities.

Participants were better positioned to:
