As we mark National Mazingira Day 2026 tomorrow at Hola TVET in Tana River County, I call upon our communities, especially the youth, to take the lead in tree growing, environmental conservation and climate action.
Tana River is increasingly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including prolonged droughts, environmental degradation and the risk of El Niño-related heavy rains and flooding. Growing trees, restoring degraded land and protecting our river ecosystems are essential steps towards building resilient communities, safeguarding livelihoods and securing a greener future. Let us empower our young people to become environmental champions and active participants in climate-smart initiatives that create opportunities while protecting our natural heritage.
Under the theme “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship,” let us turn our commitment into action. Every tree planted and nurtured today is an investment in tomorrow’s generations.
