The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, State Department for Energy, continues to advance the Government’s commitment to universal electricity access through the Last Mile Electrification Program.
Today, Principal Secretary for Energy, Alex Wachira, CBS, is in Ol’Kalou Constituency to launch and inspect key electrification projects in Rurii and Mirangini Wards.
The Githunguri, Mathakwa, and Malewa projects are set to improve electricity connectivity for households, institutions, and businesses, creating opportunities for economic growth and improved livelihoods.
Access to reliable electricity remains a key pillar in driving development, empowering communities, and enhancing service delivery across the country.

Preparations for the Energy Forum 2026 Conference are gaining momentum. Today, a high-level briefing meeting led by the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, focused on strategic planning and coordination ahead of the conference set to take place in Nairobi this August.
The forum will convene key stakeholders from across the region and beyond to deliberate on the future of energy, innovation, sustainability, and partnerships that will drive progress in the sector. Nairobi is ready to host conversations that will shape tomorrow’s energy landscape.

Kenya is stepping up efforts to achieve universal energy access by 2030 by attracting private sector investment.
Secretary for Renewable Energy Dr. Eng. Isaac Kiva emphasized that public financing alone is not sufficient to bridge existing energy gaps. He noted that the government is creating a stable and predictable regulatory environment to attract investors into the sector.
He further highlighted the importance of investing in the productive use of energy as a driver of economic transformation.

The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, was among the high-level delegates who attended the International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICoNE), hosted by the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency in collaboration with the Nuclear Energy Agency
The three-day conference, taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, has convened both local and international stakeholders.
Discussions are focused on advancing Africa’s transition into nuclear energy, highlighting its role in delivering sustainable, reliable, and clean power for the continent’s future.
