The extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha through Kisumu to Malaba marks a defining step in our journey toward inclusive economic transformation. This strategic investment will unlock the immense potential within Western Kenya spanning agriculture, the blue economy, tourism, and mining while strengthening regional trade and connectivity across East Africa.

By improving the movement of goods and people, the SGR will reduce logistical costs, open up markets for our farmers and entrepreneurs, and position Kisumu as a critical inland port city. It will also significantly ease the seasonal congestion experienced during festive periods, ensuring safer, faster, and more reliable travel for Kenyans.

This is not just infrastructure development it is a deliberate effort to bridge opportunity gaps, empower communities, and accelerate national growth in line with our long-term development agenda.

Under the leadership of William Ruto, we remain committed to delivering transformative projects that uplift livelihoods and secure Kenya’s future prosperity.

Today, I had the privilege of chairing a high level consultative meeting on the establishment of the Kenya National Institute of Indigenous Knowledge (KNIIK).

The engagement brought together partners from government, academia, and development institutions, including the National Museums of Kenya, the Ministries of Culture and Education, Maasai Mara University, Indigenous Livelihoods Enhancement Partners (ILEPA), and international collaborators from CNRS, France.

We reached a strong consensus on the importance of a coordinated national framework and agreed to establish a multi-sectoral committee to harmonize mandates and guide the next phase of implementation.

The establishment of KNIIK will play a vital role in preserving our cultural heritage, strengthening Indigenous knowledge systems, and supporting innovation, climate resilience, and inclusive development across Kenya. Harambee house, Nairobi.

Today, I joined a multiagency team at Harambee Annex to advance the implementation of the Minorities and Marginalised Affairs Unit National Policy, in line with the Presidential directive of 18th December 2025.

Our discussions focused on practical steps to uplift vulnerable communities, including enrolling 200,000 vulnerable families into the Social Health Authority (SHA), expanding scholarship opportunities, establishing County Inclusive Units, and strengthening education infrastructure.

Through coordinated action, we remain committed to ensuring these programmes reach minorities and marginalized groups across the country. Together, we will continue working to ensure no community is left behind.

Hon Johanna Ng'eno was a fearless yet thoughtful leader who stood on what he believed in to the bitter end, he was fully dedicated fighter for his constituents and community. His loss comes at a time when the issue of land rights was about to be realised, and that is what he fought for with zeal and determination.

Sending heartfelt sympathies to those who were with him during the evening crush in Mosop, Nandi County. May their families find peace and solace during this difficult moments.

Yesterday, I briefed the Parliamentary House Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities chaired by Hon. Adan Haji on the status of the National Policy on Ethnic Minorities, Indigenous and Marginalised Communities.

The transformative framework, approved by Cabinet and launched by President William Ruto during the International Minority Rights Day commemorations, seeks to operationalise constitutional and international obligations while addressing historical injustices that have long hindered minority and marginalised communities from fully enjoying their rights.

The Policy confronts systemic socio-economic exclusion, political underrepresentation, land and resource insecurity, limited access to justice and basic services, as well as conflict, weak implementation of court decisions, social protection gaps, cultural erosion and food insecurity.

I reaffirmed my commitment in engaging rights based organisations, county governments, constitutional commissions and development partners to ensure delivery of meaningful change and to promote national cohesion, equity and sustainable development.
