Curious about beekeeping or ready to build real skills from the ground up? The National Beekeeping Institute–Lenana is hosting a Basic Beekeeping Course designed for absolute beginners and anyone with a spark of interest in bees, honey, and sustainable livelihoods.

Dates: 20th-24th April 2026
Fee: KSh 8,000
Venue: National Beekeeping Institute–Lenana

Expect hands-on training, practical hive management, bee biology basics, and honey harvesting know-how; taught by experts who actually work with bees, not just slides.
What to bring:
Participants should come with a bee suit, or you can purchase one from the Institute at KSh 4,500.

We’ve successfully concluded the Value Addition of Bee Products Course (23rd–27th March 2026) at the National Beekeeping Institute–Lenana.
Participants gained hands-on skills in honey processing, product development, and value addition, equipping them to improve quality and unlock greater market value.

🌱🌍 *Growing a Greener Future Together!* 🐝

The National Beekeeping Institute (NBI) – Lenana proudly took part in the *Accelerated Tree Growing Programme for Cabinet Secretaries for the Month of March 2026* this Thursday, 26th March 2026, within the NBI-Lenana compound.

Led by Senior Deputy Director in the State Department for Livestock Development, Dr. William Akwimbi and in support of the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, *Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, EGH, the initiative brought together both **staff and students* in a united effort toward environmental conservation 🌳✨

From 9 AM, the compound was full of energy, teamwork, and purpose as participants planted *800 trees* 🌱, contributing to a more sustainable future. This exercise aligns with the Government’s national landscape restoration agenda, which aims to grow *15 billion trees by 2032* to increase forest cover, restore ecosystems, and combat climate change. On 18th March, 2026,
The National Beekeeping Institute-Lenana hosted a delegation of researchers from Romania to promote collaboration in sustainable beekeeping.

The team included Dr. Adela Ramona Moise, researcher Alexandru, and PhD student Cosmin Aliu, and was led by Dr. Monicah Maichomo, Director of the Veterinary Science Research Institute, Muguga.

The visit focused on sharing knowledge in modern apiculture, bee health management, apitherapy and environmental conservation. The engagement will strengthen international cooperation and support sustainable beekeeping practices in both Kenya and Romania.
