Ragati Conservancy Mt. Kenya The Ragati Conservancy covers an area of some 5,000 hectares of afro-montane forest on the Southern s Kenya. You will not find anywhere wilder!

The Ragati Conservancy has been formed in liaison with the Kenya Forest Service and covers an area of some 5,000 hectares on the Southern slopes of Mt. Unique in Kenya, the Conservancy consists entirely of primary Afro-Montane Forest, includes the Ragati river and its tributaries and is home to an abundance of wildlife; elephant, buffalo, leopard as well as the rare bongo, crowned eagle and clawless giant otter. The Conservancy lies between 2,200m and 3,000m and joins onto the Mt Kenya National Park, the second highest peak in Africa at 5,199m; a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our principle goal is conservation; to introduce more people to this unique habitat through activities including trout fishing and mountain climbing and to provide support and employment opportunities for the local community.

Today we honour the heroes who’s courage won Kenya’s freedom, and the heroes who keep that spirit alive on the slopes of Mt Kenya every day.

To our rangers on patrol, the communities who stand with us and the partners who believe in this landscape: you are protecting our forests, our wildlife and our future. That is what heroism looks like today.

Those who worked alongside him knew his deep respect for the natural world and his belief that conservation is ultimately about people, places, and responsibility.

His impact on Ragati reaches far beyond projects and plans. It lives on in the landscape, in the wildlife he worked to protect, and in the many people he mentored, encouraged, and inspired along the way.
