KENYA’S FOOD SECURITY AGENDA TAKES CENTRE STAGE AS AGRICULTURE SUMMIT OPENS

From maize availability and milk production to drought resilience, safe use of pesticides, livestock health and preparedness for El Niño, Kenya’s food security conversation is ultimately about one thing: the farmer.

Kenya is not facing starvation, even as the country works to close a maize supply gap, stabilise milk production amid reduced deliveries from farmers, strengthen food reserves and cushion communities against climate-related shocks.

The Government is also exploring regional maize supplies from East Africa and COMESA while strengthening domestic production, markets, livestock productivity and farmer resilience.

These issues and the solutions needed to build a more productive, resilient and competitive agricultural sector take centre stage at the Agriculture Summit 2026, set for 7–9 October at Jamhuri Showground, Nairobi.

The conversation is moving beyond food availability to how Kenya can empower farmers to produce more, earn more and feed the nation sustainably.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development invites stakeholders, members of the public, and all interested parties to participate in the **National Validation Meeting** for the revised Draft Kenya Agricultural Data, Information and Digital Policy, 2026 and the Draft Digital Agricultural Information Bill, 2026, to be held on **Friday, 7 August 2026**, from **9:00 a.m.** at **KALRO Headquarters, Loresho**.

The revised drafts incorporate feedback received during the nationwide stakeholder engagement and public participation exercise conducted in March 2026.
