Tana Water Works Development Agency Board, led by Chairperson Mr. Theobald Mukundi, has undergone a governance audit conducted by the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS).
For a public institution entrusted with the development of national public water and sanitation infrastructure, effective governance is central to how the Agency fulfils its mandate. The Board, as the institutionโs policy and oversight organ, plays an important role in providing strategic direction, setting the policy framework, and exercising oversight over the Agencyโs performance.
The governance audit provided an opportunity to assess the effectiveness of these governance practices, including Board effectiveness, ethical leadership, accountability, risk management and internal controls, transparency and disclosure, stakeholder relations, compliance, sustainability and performance management.
Good policymaking matters because the decisions and frameworks established at the governance level influence how institutions plan, manage resources, uphold accountability, and remain focused on their mandates. For TWWDA, this ultimately supports an institutional environment capable of advancing water supply and sanitation infrastructure development across Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.
The audit therefore forms part of the Agencyโs continued focus on strengthening governance, enhancing institutional performance, and ensuring that policy and oversight remain aligned with TWWDAโs mandate and public responsibility.
