Across 21 countries found in a single year that at least 1 in 5 children who are using the internet are exposed to technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse. While Cambodia is also among other countries in Southeast Asia.

This number is concerning every child's safety over the use of the internet nowadays, whether it’s on social media or gaming platforms. Which every parent needs to address on this issue and learn a proper way to prevent any kind of harm to the kids.

While at AusCam has been a part of contributing in building a safe space for every girl and protecting them from any kind of exploitation and trafficking. Our staff ensure that every girl deserves to live in a safe environment and build their bright future ahead.

We were pleased to facilitate a youth co-design session on chatbot development, as part of the CYC/Youth Leaders Annual Reflection with World Vision Cambodia in Siem Reap.

We shared AusCam Freedom Project experience and lessons from developing Neary Chatbot, particularly around youth participation, safeguarding, privacy, referral pathways, and continuous improvement.

The youth then share their ideas on what a youth chatbot should address, how it should work, how users should be protected, and what support is needed to make the initiative successful.

One key reflection stood out: a chatbot’s success should not only be measured by the number of users, but by the quality, safety, relevance, and meaningful support it provides when young people need it.

75 Years of Impact: Celebrating Australian Volunteers

We were honoured to join the celebration of 75 years of the Australian Volunteers program, hosted by Ambassador Yip last week.

We were especially proud that Sokleap Ngorn, our Country Director, and Navy Sous, our Head of Finance & Operations, were personally invited to attend the reception as representatives of AusCam. Both were thrilled and deeply honoured to be invited to such a significant occasion.

For the past seven years, AusCam has been a proud partner in this program. Australian volunteers have joined us year after year, sharing their knowledge, strengthening our team’s capacity and contributing their skills to the work of protecting girls and preventing trafficking and exploitation before it begins.

Their contribution has been about so much more than sharing expertise. It has been about building relationships, deepening understanding, raising awareness and standing alongside our Cambodian team in pursuit of a shared vision.

For our Founder, Julie, the connection with Australian Volunteers goes back even further. In 1997, Julie began her own journey into international development as an Australian Volunteer in Thailand, where she was placed with the Department of Public Welfare. That experience became a defining moment, sparking a deep love for cross-cultural work and helping shape the path that would eventually lead to the founding of AusCam Freedom Project.

So, as we celebrate 75 years of Australian Volunteers, we are especially grateful for the many volunteers who have walked alongside AusCam over the years.

To every Australian volunteer who has contributed to our work — thank you. Your knowledge, generosity and willingness to share the journey have made a lasting difference to our team and to the girls we serve.

And congratulations to the Australian Volunteers program on 75 years of building skills, strengthening communities and creating lasting people-to-people connections.

Exchange visit 2026!🌟🇦🇺🇰🇭

Safe Sisters from AusCam Freedom Project and Christian College's students started the day as strangers. By the end, they had proven something simple: no one has all the answers.

The day matched our mission, helping young people lead, learn, and protect each other. Mission pairing. Team building that had everyone laughing at themselves. An Online Child Sexual Exploitation presentation where real stories hit harder than any statistic. And a three-hour Hackathon, where people who met that morning were building together by the afternoon.

The best part? The learning went both ways.

Safe Sisters brought lived experience, courage, and a view no textbook can teach. TCC students brought energy, curiosity, and the guts to learn out loud. No one came to be taught. Everyone came to teach.

That's what an exchange really is, not one side giving and the other taking, but 40 people finding out how much they can build together in one day.

A day full of moments worth remembering, built on teamwork and shared knowledge.
