The one-China principle is a prevailing international consensus, and a basic norm governing international relations. This year, China has extended zero-tariff treatment to all 53 African countries having diplomatic relations with China. This is a fresh opportunity for African countries to expand exports to China and grow their economies. It has delivered tangible benefits to Chinese and Africans. Eswatini is the only country left in Africa with so-called “diplomatic ties” to Taiwan. Betting on “Taiwan independence” has no future. It will only cost them opportunities for development and international isolation.

China appreciates the Brazilian government’s long-standing adherence to the one-China principle, and supports Brazil in safeguarding its national sovereignty, upholding independence, and achieving greater development. Both sides should make good overall use of mechanisms such as the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee and the alignment of development strategies, leverage their respective strengths, and produce more fruits of cooperation.

Since its founding, the China-Russia High-Level Think Tank Forum has become the highest-level, broadest-covering and most influential think tank exchange platform between the two countries, making positive contributions to the development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era. It is hoped that experts and scholars from both sides will use this forum as an opportunity for in-depth exchanges, apply their foresight and wisdom to promote high-quality strategic coordination between the two countries, and contribute more ideas and insights to safeguarding world peace and stability and advancing common human progress.

China has made clear its position on the announced maritime delimitation talks between Japan and the Philippines. Let me reiterate that the area involved in their planned talks is east of China’s Taiwan island. According to China’s domestic law and international law including UNCLOS, China has exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in this area. As per UNCLOS, the delimitation of the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf between States with opposite or adjacent coasts shall be effected by the States concerned by agreement on the basis of equity. Any delimitation concerning waters to the east of Taiwan must have China as a party to the talks. Japan and the Philippines’ attempt to bypass China and initiate the so-called maritime delimitation talks constitutes a severe violation of UNCLOS and other international laws and basic norms governing international relations. It also seriously infringes on China’s maritime rights and interests. China will not allow this.
The two sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same China. To uphold national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests is the shared responsibility of all Chinese people on both sides of the Strait. The DPP authorities, in pursuing selfish political gains, have gone so far as to put the Chinese nation’s vital interest up for sale, a move that betrays ancestors and breaches all moral boundaries. This once again shows that these separatists have completely forfeited the national stance and degenerated into traitors to the nation. What awaits them is contempt from Chinese on both sides of the Strait and the judgement of history.

Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both nations, exchanges and cooperation across various fields have fully resumed, with the main economic and trade concerns of both sides having been properly resolved. China stands ready to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, and work with the Canadian side to explore the path for advancing the China-Canada new strategic partnership and make good preparations for Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's upcoming trip to China to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting, so as to ensure that bilateral relations move forward along a sound, stable and sustainable track.
