Field Visit to M-13 | PEACE Project
Last week, UNESCO Cambodia joined representatives from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum on a field visit to M-13, a former Khmer Rouge security prison and a site of profound historical significance inscribed on the World Heritage List.
The visit provided an opportunity to observe ongoing excavation work at the site and to advance coordination under the PEACE Project — a UNESCO initiative funded by KOICA that supports the preservation of Cambodia's cultural heritage and the promotion of education for peace and reconciliation.
Sites like M-13 are a reminder of the importance of safeguarding memory, promoting historical understanding, and ensuring that the lessons of the past continue to educate future generations.
UNESCO remains committed to working alongside its partners to protect Cambodia's heritage and support communities in honoring the memory of those who suffered.

On 18 May 2026, UNESCO joined a high-level joint field visit for the Decent Employment for Youth in Cambodia (DEY III) programme, co-led by H.E. Mr. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) and Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, UN Resident Coordinator, to the Basic Education Equivalency Programme (BEEP) learning center at the Battambang Institute of Technology (BIT).
During the visit, the delegation learned about BEEP operations, observed the BEEP Learning Management System (LMS) and learning facilities, and spoke with BEEP students, graduates, and facilitators about their experience, opportunities, and challenges during and after the programme. Among them, Ms. Soem Theara shared her journey from completing Grade 9 through BEEP to continuing electrical training at C1, C2 and C3 levels, and advancing toward a higher technical diploma.
“Strengthening coordination among government, development partners, and the private sector remains key to achieving sustainable and inclusive labour market outcomes,” noted the Minister, who also affirmed the government’s commitment to continue expanding the programme for young people to build their own future.
Jointly implemented by ក្រសួងការងារ និងបណ្តុះបណ្តាលវិជ្ជាជីវៈ and MoEYS Cambodia, BEEP, as part of DEY III, continues to reconnect out-of-school youth with education, skills development and pathways to decent employment. Since its launch, BEEP has been integrated into key national strategies and reached over 4,800 learners across 44 centres nationwide, with more than 2,290 graduates, over half progressing to further education or training.

👩🎓 Youth Empowerment
The project also contributes to safeguarding the memory and documentary heritage of the Cambodian Memorial Sites, including M-13, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (TSGM), and Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, recently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Museums are not only places of remembrance, but also spaces for learning, dialogue, reflection, and building a more peaceful and inclusive future.
