EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA DURING NORMAL DELIVERY
ℹ️ An epidural anesthesia (EA) is the most common type of anesthesia used for pain relief during labor🤰.
Before EA 👨⚕️ a specialist-anesthesiologist will insert a needle and a tiny tube, called a catheter, in the lower part of a back.
We can begin an EA at any time during labor — in the beginning, in the middle, or even toward the end of normal delivery.
The anesthesiologist will numb ❄ the area where the EA is administered.
EA creates a band (line) of numbness from lower abdomen to upper legs.
It allows a lady to be awake and alert throughout labor, as well as to feel pressure.
The amount of medication, that reaches a newborn 👶 during EA, is very small, and there is no evidence that it causes any harm
In addition to anesthesia, a lady can get some positive effects:
- shortening the first stage of labor,
- muscle relaxation,
- improving the emotional condition by reducing pain 🤱.
To find out more about the procedure and contraindications to it, you need to talk to your doctor – 👨⚕️ ObGyn specialist and specialist-anesthesiologist Andrei Gorlanov
