MICT POST #06 – 2026: Government ICT Practitioners Convene for Digital Government Workshop 2026
Close to 60 ICT officers from across Government participated in the Digital Government Workshop 2026 held at Lucky Future Lodge from 8–10 May 2026 under the national digital government initiative led by the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) within the Ministry of Information, Communications and Transport (MICT).
The workshop brought together ICT practitioners from ministries and public bodies to strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance understanding of the Government’s digital transformation agenda and the legal framework established under the Digital Government Act 2023.
Key sessions focused on the mandate of the DTO, governance arrangements under the Act, the formal role and responsibilities of ICT practitioners across Government, enterprise architecture, and compliance requirements for ICT projects. Discussions also covered the draft 10-Year Workplan for the implementation of Digital Government initiatives across the public sector.
Participants were also introduced to several national systems that will support digital government implementation, including the Government ICT Ticketing System, ICT Asset Management System, National Human Resource Management System, National e-Registry, and the Government Website Content Management System (CMS) platform.
Updates were further provided on major digital transformation initiatives currently underway, including Government Wi-Fi and LAN improvements, fibre internet connectivity, Government data centre initiatives, and the rollout of productivity applications and platforms across the Government.
The workshop retreat also provided an important opportunity for ICT practitioners to network, exchange experiences, and strengthen professional collaboration across Government as Kiribati continues advancing its national digital transformation agenda.
The Government of Kiribati acknowledges and expresses its appreciation to the United Nations Development Programme for its support as the sole sponsor of the Digital Government Workshop 2026.
