Remarks by Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Kiribati

The Chinese Embassy in Kiribati has noticed that certain US individuals and media outlets have falsely claimed that China obstructs the recovery of remains of fallen US soldiers from World War II on Tarawa Island.

We strongly condemn such groundless accusations. China has never taken any action to hinder the relevant remains recovery work conducted by the US side. China and the United States were allies fighting side by side during World War II. For a long time, China has offered consistent assistance to the US in searching for remains of American soldiers within Chinese territory. There is simply no reason for China to block the US from carrying out similar remains recovery operations on Tarawa. We hope relevant individuals could respect objective facts, stop spreading false information and put an end to unfounded allegations.
