One year ago today, on 13 April 2025, the world came together in Osaka for the opening of Expo 2025.
What began as a single day, filled with anticipation, celebration, and a shared sense of purpose, marked the start of six extraordinary months. Over 150 countries and organisations gathered to explore ideas, spark dialogue, and imagine the future together
At the EU Pavilion, under the theme “Nurturing Tomorrow,” we opened our doors not knowing just how impactful this journey would become.
From inspiring conversations to unforgettable encounters, from curious visitors to meaningful partnerships - the months that followed exceeded every expectation.
Looking back today, it’s clear: the opening was only the beginning.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, visited us, and shaped this incredible experience 💙

What if structures designed to last months could support communities for decades?
The façade of the EU Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has been donated and is now being transformed into Future Garden School in Mae Sot, Thailand 🇹🇭.
What once stood at a global event is becoming a permanent learning space for more than 150 children, demonstrating how circular design can turn temporary architecture into lasting social impact.
This initiative brings together global expertise and local action, showing how reuse, collaboration and innovation can extend the life of materials far beyond the Expo.

In collaboration with KMCC and local builders Ironwood.

Expo 2025 Osaka may have closed its doors, but the EU story doesn’t end here. 💙 What was created for the Expo was always meant to last.
Elements of the EU Pavilion, including our beloved mascot Europa, have been carefully repurposed and are now part of the premises of the Delegation of the European Union to Japan in Tokyo, continuing their journey beyond the Expo grounds.
From the very first sketches, the EU Pavilion was designed with reuse in mind, not as an afterthought, but as a guiding principle. We believe that what we build should have a life beyond the moment.
And this is only the beginning. More to come soon, as we continue to share how repurposing can serve communities far beyond the Expo. 🌍🌱

After Expo 2025 Osaka, all our plants packed their bags and returned to their garden house, because yes, they were all rented. 🌱
Some have already moved on to new gigs: our star bamboo from the entrance is now vibing in office spaces across Japan. Living its best corporate life. 🌿✨

Expo 2025 Osaka may have closed, but our story doesn’t end there. 💙
The Pavilion façade is being repurposed and donated to an NGO supporting schools in Thailand, particularly for migrant and refugee children on the Thai–Burmese border.
The organisation focuses on creating safe, modular, and sustainable classrooms, helping improve educational access and opportunities for marginalised communities.
We’re proud to see the Pavilion’s materials given a second life, extending the spirit of Expo beyond Osaka, where sustainability and solidarity continue to nurture a better tomorrow. 🌱✨
