The Rainbow Community(Emmaus) In Korea This was the firs...t group home in Korea and the first attempt at providing a community based service for intellectually disabled persons.

Inspired by Christian values and recognizing the unique dignity of each person, we strive to enhance the quality of life of intellectually and developmentally disabled persons Our Values
In all our services we are guided by a strong commitment to promote the principles that people with an intellectual or a developmental disability have
- the right to be treated as an individual with dignity and to be respected as a whole person
- the right to be actively involved in all aspects of planning and delivery services affecting their lives
- the right to support in developing their maximum potential


Our Goals(Aims)
1) to enhance the social image and competency of the disabled person
2) to provide person centered planning(PCP) services appropriate to his/her special needs
3) to promote community based services rather than segregated services
4) to help to bring about attitudinal changes in government,society,and in church by working in partnership
with individuals,families,professionals,organizations and state agencies
5) to carry out research and studies related to intellectual disability

Company Overview
In 1981, the International Year of the Disabled, Fr.Noel O'Neill, a Limerick born Irish Columban missionary, aware of the sad plight of the intellectually disabled people in a Confucian influenced Korean Society, together with a 24 year old intellectually disabled woman from the local Beggars Camp and one volunteer began to live in community in an ordinary house in Gwangju city. The local community showed curiosity in this unusual situation, a foreigner living in community with an intellectually disabled person. A few months later they were joined by other volunteers who wished to help and also by other intellectually disabled persons from families of the local community. The mustard seed was sown which was to grow into the Rainbow Community under whose umbrella various Emmaus services were developed over the years.
