엘레노어 강 공관차석과 순잉 1등서기관(행정·영사)은 학생들과의 대화를 통해, 지난해 싱가포르와 대한민국 간 관계가 전략적 동반자 관계로 격상되면서 열린 새로운 협력의 기회들에 대해 소개했습니다. 또한 전 세계 싱가포르 재외공관들이 싱가포르의 이익 증진과 해외에 있는 싱가포르 국민을 지원하기 위해 하는 일들에 대해 설명하였습니다.

Last week, the Singapore Embassy in Seoul was happy to host teachers and students from the Swiss Cottage Secondary School, who were visiting the Republic of Korea (ROK) on their ”Leading Beyond Borders: Student Leadership Trip“.

Deputy Chief of Mission Elenore Kang, and First Secretary (Admin and Consular) Soon Ying engaged in a dialogue with the students to share about the opportunities presented by the upgrade of relations between Singapore and the ROK to a Strategic Partnership last year, and the work that Singapore’s Overseas Missions around the world do to serve Singapore‘s interests and to help Singaporeans abroad.

Calling Singaporean students in the ROK! 👀🌏

Jointly organised by the ASEAN-Korea Centre, ASEAN-China Centre and ASEAN-Japan Centre, the ASEAN+3 Youth Retreat is coming to Gyeongju, ROK.
It will bring together 42 youths from ASEAN Member States, the Republic of Korea, China, and Japan.

Participants will take part in:
✅ A project competition
✅ Group discussions
✅ Team-building sessions
✅ Visits to historical and cultural sites

Benefits for Participants:

한국과학기술원(카이스트)은 세계적으로 인정받는 연구 역량을 갖춘 기관으로, 대한민국이 세계적인 과학기술 강국으로 눈부시게 발전하는 데 핵심적인 역할을 해왔습니다.

2026년 5월 13일, 웡 카이 쥔 주한 싱가포르 대사는 대전 카이스트 본원을 방문하여 카이스트 과기외교센터(KCSD) 개소식과 센터의 첫 국제포럼에 참석했습니다. 이번 포럼에서는 외교를 통한 과학기술 국제협력 등 과학외교의 다양한 측면에 대한 논의가 이루어졌습니다. 🔬

KCSD는 과학기술을 바탕으로 기후위기, 고령화, 에너지, 디지털 전환 등 인류가 직면한 공동 과제를 해결하기 위한 글로벌 협력 플랫폼을 목표로 합니다. 또한 새로운 세대의 과학외교관을 양성하고자 합니다.

웡 대사는 개소식 축사를 통해 카이스트와 KCSD의 앞으로의 성공을 기원했습니다. 또한 카이스트와 KCSD가 싱가포르의 관련 기관들과 협력 관계를 더욱 심화해 나가기를 기대한다고 밝혔습니다.

The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is globally recognised for its research and has been a key driver of the ROK’s remarkable development into a world-renowned technological and scientific powerhouse.

On 13 May 2026, Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun visited KAIST’s main campus at Daejeon to attend the inauguration ceremony of the KAIST Center for Science Diplomacy (KCSD) and the center’s first global forum, which discussed different dimensions of science diplomacy, including international cooperation in science and technology through diplomacy.🔬

The KCSD aims to serve as a global cooperation platform that harnesses science and technology to address shared challenges facing humanity, such as climate change, ageing, energy, and digital transformation. It also seeks to nurture a new generation of science diplomats.

In his congratulatory remarks at the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Wong wished both KAIST and the KCSD success in the years ahead. He also looked forward to both KAIST and the KCSD deepening their collaborative relations with their counterparts in Singapore.

대한민국은 아세안의 중요한 대화상대국입니다. 경제 분야에서 대한민국은 2024년 아세안의 제5위 교역 상대국이자 제7위 외국인직접투자 유입국이었습니다.
웡 카이 쥔 주한 싱가포르 대사와 다른 서울 주재 아세안 대사들은 어제 여한구 대한민국 통상교섭본부장을 공동 예방했습니다.

대사들과 여 본부장은 아세안-대한민국 경제 파트너십을 더욱 강화하기 위한 방안에 대해 건설적인 의견을 교환했습니다. 양측은 또한 한-아세안 자유무역지대 격상에 대한 강력한 지지를 표명했습니다.

아세안-대한민국 경제 관계의 조정국으로서 싱가포르는 개방적이고 규범 기반의 무역에 대한 우리의 공동 의지를 강화하고, 기업들의 성장과 디지털 및 녹색 경제 분야의 기회 포착을 지원하며, 글로벌 불확실성 속에서 회복력을 높이는 한-아세안 자유무역지대의 의미 있고 실질적인 격상을 기대합니다.

The ROK is an important Dialogue Partner for ASEAN. On the economic front, it was ASEAN’s 5th largest trading partner and 7th largest source of foreign direct investment in 2024.

Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun and other fellow ASEAN Ambassadors in Seoul made a joint call on ROK Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo yesterday.

The Ambassadors and Minister Yeo had a good exchange of views on ways to further strengthen the ASEAN-ROK economic partnership. Both sides also expressed strong support for the negotiations to upgrade the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Area (AKFTA).

As coordinator for ASEAN-ROK economic relations, Singapore looks forward to a meaningful and substantive upgrade of the AKFTA that reinforces our shared commitment to open and rules-based trade, helps our businesses to grow, seize opportunities in digital and green economies, and builds resilience amid global uncertainty.

Established with support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2007, the 120 Dasan Call Center is a professional agency which provides one-stop, customised assistance for Seoul residents.

Yesterday, Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun had the pleasure of meeting Mr Lee Yi-jae, Chairman of the Seoul 120 Dasan Call Foundation, and his team, to learn more about the meaningful work of the 120 Dasan Call Center and how Seoul residents, including foreigners, can benefit from their services. Singapore Chamber of Commerce in Korea (SingCham Korea) Chairman Justin Yong also joined the meeting.

Today, the Call Center offers a myriad of services, including:
- Providing advice on general administration matters such as transportation, public health, housing;
- Offering counselling support through call, text message and social media channels;
- Assisting with reservations at public facilities in Seoul and interpretation over calls/video calls, etc.

In this regard, Singaporeans travelling to Seoul may wish to take note of the number "120" in case you need urgent advice from 120 Dasan Call Center for related matters in your upcoming trips. The center's consultation services are currently available in foreign languages including English, Mandarin, Japanese, Mongolian and Vietnamese, from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.

지난주 웡 카이 쥔 주한 싱가포르 대사는 충청북도에 위치한 반기문평화기념관에서 반기문 제8대 유엔 사무총장을 만나 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다. 반기문평화기념관은 지속가능발전, 인권, 그리고 세계 평화와 안보 증진에 기여한 반 전 총장의 업적을 기념하는 공간입니다.

반 전 총장의 유엔 사무총장 재임 기간(2007–2016) 중에는 2030 지속가능발전 의제와 기후변화에 관한 파리협정이 채택되는 등 여러 중요한 성과가 있었습니다.

반 전 총장은 유엔 사무총장으로서 2012년 싱가포르를 처음 공식 방문했으며, 당시 반 전 총장에게 헌정하는 의미로 난초가 명명되었습니다. 반 전 총장은 2016년에도 싱가포르를 방문한 바 있습니다.

Last week, Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun had the honour of meeting Mr Ban Ki-Moon, the 8th United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) at the Ban Ki-moon Peace Museum in North Chungcheong Province, which celebrates his achievements in promoting sustainable development, human rights, as well as global peace and security.

During Mr Ban‘s term in office as UNSG (2007-2016), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the Paris Agreement on climate change were adopted, among his various achievements.

Mr Ban made his first Official Visit to Singapore as UNSG in 2012, during which an orchid was named in his honour. He also visited again in 2016.

올해는 서울세계도시문화축제 30주년을 맞이하는 뜻깊은 해입니다.

오늘 행사에는 주한 싱가포르대사관을 비롯해 서울 주재 70여 개 대사관이 참여했으며, 국제사회 속 사람과 사람 간의 친선과 상호 이해를 더욱 깊게 하는 의미 있는 자리였습니다.

축제의 세계 영상·사진전에서는 싱가포르 관련 영상을 만나보실 수 있으며, 세계 음식 존에서는 싱가포르 음식도 즐기실 수 있습니다.

대사관 직원들이 축제 현장에서 촬영한 사진 몇 장을 공유합니다. 축제는 오늘과 내일 동대문디자인플라자(DDP)에서 열립니다.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Seoul Friendship Festival, a significant milestone.

Over 70 Embassies in Seoul, including the Singapore Embassy, participated in today's event, which serves to strengthen people-to-people friendship and understanding in the international community.
