Welcome to the exhibition where you can explore the remarkable growth and changes of Seoul since national liberation.
Seoul was completely in ruins after Korea's national liberation in 1945.
But soon after the armistice in 1953, Seoul quickly rebuilt itself through the nation's reconstruction efforts that led to Korea's economic growth in the mid-1960s.
Gangnam became a land of new opportunities in the late 1960s with the urban development of Seoul's eastern region, leading to a rise in population as prestigious schools in Gangbuk relocated to Gangnam.
Economic development erected tall apartments across Seoul, establishing apartment housing as a new, popular form of residence.
The 1988 Summer Olympics propelled Seoul forward as an international city, transforming it into a metropolis with a population of over ten million.
Since the 1990s, Seoul has improved citizens' quality of life through citywide hyper-connected infrastructure from transportation to urban green spaces.
Experience the history of change and growth through a journey that connects the past and present of Seoul.
It's time to reconnect with Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

Welcome to the exhibition where you can see the history of Seoul.
In the mid-19th century, Joseon was at a crossroads of tradition and modernity as it faced pressure from foreign powers and internal movements for national reform.
Jeong-dong symbolized the ideology of reform of the Korean Empire and rooted itself as the new epicenter of Seoul.
Jong-ro and Namdaemun-ro took on semblance of modern urbanism, bringing new cultures to the daily lives of people living in Seoul.
During the Japanese occupation, Gyeongseong was devalued from being the capital of Joseon to a provincial city under Japanese rule, as the central area of colonial administration.
Gyeongseong was the focal point of national movements where the March 1st Movement and anti-Japanese uprisings took place.
Gyeongseong developed into a modern city as western-style buildings and trams gradually appeared, yet it undeniably remained as a place of discrimination against the Korean people.
Discover and empathize with the transformation of Seoul, a city that holds a history of coexistence and conflict.
