Our Trade and Investment Counsellor at Awex Almaty, Ms. Aizhan M***akanova Aijan M***a, had the honour of accompanying IBA’s individual prospecting visit to Kazakhstan, organised to explore new opportunities and renew contacts established more than 15 years ago.
IBA was represented by Andrew D**e, Sales Director for Central and Eastern Europe | Central Asia and the Caucasus, and Aidana Shagalakova, EMEA Regional Product Manager.
A Belgian and Walloon technological flagship, IBA is a global leader in particle accelerators, proton therapy, dosimetry, and radiopharmaceutical solutions. The company develops cutting-edge technologies serving diagnostics, patient treatment, and scientific research.
Kazakhstan is already familiar with the value of this Belgian expertise: IBA equipment is used in the country for medical and scientific purposes, demonstrating the concrete impact of Belgian innovation on the ground.

The visit also provided an opportunity to consider the future prospects of proton therapy in Central Asia — an advanced treatment technology that could, in time, open up new opportunities for medical, scientific, and technological cooperation in the region.

Together with His Excellency Erik De Maeyer, Ambassador of Belgium to Kazakhstan, our Trade and Investment Counsellor, visited the Soudal production site in Astana on behalf of Wallonia in Kazakhstan, as part of our broader mission also representing Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) in Kazakhstan.

Soudal stands out for its strong industrial know-how, well-established R&D culture, and practical innovation in , , and . In this field, quality often lies in the details — and this is exactly where Soudal brings real added value.

This visit provided a valuable opportunity to witness firsthand the strong presence of in Kazakhstan. We were also pleased to learn about the company’s recent recognition for its excellent financial performance over the period 2022–2024, which clearly reflects the team’s professionalism, consistency, and commitment.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Ruslan Nurmukhanov, General Director, and Zhanbolat Kabiev, Commercial Director, for the warm welcome, the open and insightful exchange, and for sharing the inspiring story behind the success and development of Soudal Kazakhstan.

Yesterday, a "European Bakery Seminar" took place, co-organized by Eligita and Puratos Puratos Group.
Eligita is- an international company founded in 1993, specializing in the supply of raw materials and ingredients for the food industry, as well as in providing technological support to food manufacturers.
Puratos is- a global Belgian group specializing in innovative ingredients and solutions for the bakery, patisserie and chocolate industries.

During the seminar, Puratos delivered a company presentation and shared with participants the latest trends in bread and confectionery products.

The presentation also included a tasting session divided into two blocks:
1. the first block focused on bread and bakery products;
2. the second block on confectionery.

The tasting featured a variety of sourdough breads, healthy grain breads, trending sweet bakery items, classic and modern confectionery products, and, of course, items made with chocolate and premium glazes.

The event was engaging and interactive: the audience actively asked questions, and the Puratos team—led by Marketing Manager Anastasia and a team of technologists—provided feedback and expert insights.

Overall, the seminar was highly beneficial both for industry professionals and for a broader understanding of current market trends.

On February 3, 2026, a working meeting took place between our Trade Counselor Aijan M***a and Shara Akylbayeva, Chairwoman of the Presidium of the Association of Legal Entities “Almaty Chamber of Commerce and Industry” Торгово-промышленная палата города Алматы, as well as Aizhan Naurzgalieva, President of the Kazakhstan Association of the Sugar, Food and Processing Industries.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstani and Belgian companies and exploring new partnership opportunities in the agro-food and agricultural sectors. Particular attention was given to the implementation of international standards, including the importance of GlobalG.A.P., as a key tool to enhance product quality, competitiveness, and export potential.
The meeting provided a constructive platform for a meaningful exchange of views, oriented toward future collaboration and the development of practical business opportunities between Kazakhstan and Belgium.

On 20 January in Astana, a UEFA Champions League brought together FCKairatAlmaty and Club Brugge.
It was one of those nights when football feels bigger than a game, full of energy, emotion and shared excitement.

For the Diplomatic Mission of Belgium in Kazakhstan, such events go beyond football. Ahead of the visit, our tri-regional office Wallonia in Kazakhstan, on behalf of Flanders, was happy to stand alongside ClubBrugge, supporting, advising, smoothing the small but important details behind the scenes.

That is often what diplomacy looks like in real life: quiet work, trust built step by step, conversations that make things easier rather than louder. The same mindset that supports cooperation far beyond sport.

In December, a meeting took place between the Ambassador of Belgium, Mr. Erik De Maeyer, Trade and Economic Counsellor at AWEX Almaty,Mrs Aizhan M***akanova and Mr. Kazhimurat Khairushev—the son of partisan Gabdullin Seylkhan, a hero who fought within the Resistance in Belgium and France during the Second World War.

During the conversation, the Ambassador heard first-hand from Mr. Khairushev about his father’s heroic deeds. Mr. Khairushev also mentioned a book dedicated to Gabdullin Seylkhan’s achievements, in which the events of those years are described in a vivid and detailed manner.

The discussion also recalled the visit of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Mr. Alexis de Crombrugghe de Picendal, on 4 October 2019 to the Inder District of the Atyrau Region, during which a wreath was laid at the partisan’s grave. This gesture of remembrance and respect served as an important reminder of the value of historical memory and human solidarity that transcends borders and eras.

As the year draws to a close, we are especially reminded that the memory of such heroism unites countries and generations and forms a foundation for mutual respect and trust between peoples.
