❤️🤍🍀 de Mărțișor vă urăm o primăvară frumoasă! Happy Mărțișor!
& 1 наурыз күтті болсын! 🌷🪻

& Happy 1st of March from România! 🤍❤️

Mărțișor is an ancient spring tradition celebrated every year on March 1st in Romania and other parts of Southeastern Europe.

The name “Mărțișor” is a diminutive of March (“Martie” in Romanian). It is believed that the person who wears the red and white string will enjoy a prosperous and healthy year.
Traditionally, the Mărțișor consists of a red and white twisted thread. The colors are often interpreted as symbols of life and purity, winter and spring, or the balance between opposing forces.

Not long ago, especially in rural areas, people used to celebrate Mărțișor by hanging a red and white string at their gate, window, on animal shelters or even on animals’ horns, as protection against evil spirits and as an invocation of nature’s regenerative power.
In regions such as Moldavia and Bucovina, the red and white string was sometimes complemented with a small gold or silver coin. After wearing the coin for a number of days, women would use it to buy fresh cheese, hoping that their skin would remain healthy and beautiful throughout the year.

According to various ethnological interpretations, the origins of Mărțișor go back to ancient times. Some researchers associate it with Roman traditions, as in ancient Rome the New Year was celebrated on March 1st, in the month dedicated to Mars, a deity linked not only to war, but also to agriculture and the renewal of life. Others consider it to have pre-Roman, possibly Dacian roots, although its exact origin remains open to interpretation.
In Romanian traditional culture, the beginning of the year was often understood as a moment of renewal rather than a fixed date. Around the return of spring, sometimes associated with the spring equinox, when day and night are in balance, communities marked the rebirth of life. Echoes of this worldview are still preserved in Romanian carols, which carry the memory of a time when the year began with the regeneration of nature.

In the past, Mărțișoare were worn from March 1st until the first trees began to blossom. When the trees started to bloom, the Mărțișoare were hung on their branches, as a gesture of offering and hope for fertility and abundance.
Today, on March 1st, people offer Mărțișoare - small ornaments attached to red and white threads - to family members, friends and colleagues, traditionally to women, as a sign of appreciation, friendship and the arrival of spring.

In 2017, Mărțișor was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as a shared cultural practice of Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.

Marking Four Years of War: Embassies in Kazakhstan Stand Firm with Ukraine
Joint diplomatic statement

https://vlast.kz/english/68474-marking-four-years-of-war-embassies-in-kazakhstan-stand-firm-with-ukraine.html

On 24 February 2022, the Russian Federation launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Four years later, Ukraine and its people have suffered devastating attacks and great loss of life. What began as an attempt to overcome a sovereign nation has instead revealed the extraordinary resilience of the Ukrainian people — and the unity and determination of the international community standing with them.

For four years, Ukrainians have endured airstrikes on homes, schools and hospitals and attacks deliberately targeting energy infrastructure in the depths of winter, leaving many without heating, water and electricity. Their voices, and their desire for a just and lasting peace, remain at the heart of our collective response.

The scale of destruction is enormous. Ukraine faces tens of billions in direct physical damage, from shattered power grids to devastated transport links and ruined neighbourhoods. Civilian casualties continue to mount as heavy bombardment continues. Millions remain displaced inside Ukraine, while millions more have been forced to seek safety abroad. On the front line, cumulative deaths are in the hundreds of thousands, while in the occupied areas, Russia has committed systematic human rights violations, including forcible transfer and deportation of Ukrainian children.

Ukraine has shown again and again that it is the party of peace — engaging constructively in diplomatic efforts, supporting ceasefire proposals, and working closely with partners to advance credible pathways toward negotiations. We welcome the progress made in recent talks. Many of us have joined the “Coalition of the Willing”, a grouping that gathers a diverse group of nations, well beyond the borders of the EU, to ensure the future security of Ukraine.

We all share a common goal: a just, sustainable peace that protects Ukraine’s sovereignty, restores its security, and ends this war in a manner that ensures lasting stability. It is vital that Russia matches Ukraine’s constructive approach and engages meaningfully with internationally supported peace efforts. So far, Russia has insisted on maximalist demands and showed no willingness to compromise.

But diplomacy is not enough unless Ukraine has the means to defend itself. As long as the war continues, the international community must continue to provide the assistance Ukraine needs to protect its people. Supporting Ukraine’s self-defence is not only an act of solidarity — it is a defence of international law and the UN Charter. International borders cannot be changed by force. We all, as UN Members, have a shared duty and interest in defending the principles of international law. Support for self-defence is not only an act of solidarity — it is a defence of international law and the UN Charter. International borders cannot be changed by force. We all, as UN Members, have a shared duty and interest in defending the principles of international law.

On this sombre anniversary, we, the Embassies of Ukraine’s partners here in Kazakhstan, reaffirm our steadfast commitment to keep supporting Ukraine — accelerating economic pressure on Russia, combating sanctions circumvention, backing diplomatic efforts, and delivering the assistance Ukraine needs — for as long as it takes to secure a just and lasting peace.

Ambassadors of European Union member states, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and Moldova to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
