COP31 is pulling up in Antalya this November, but the road there runs through the Pacific 🌏 Fiji, Tuvalu and Australia are hosting the Pre-COP, bringing Pacific perspectives into the lead-up to the global climate talks.

So, what does climate action look like beyond the summit stage? One part of the answer is Germany’s International Climate Initiative, or IKI. Since 2008, it has backed more than 1,100 climate and biodiversity projects around the world. In 2026, Germany allocated €635 million to the initiative.

Across the Indo-Pacific, that support can mean work on clean energy transitions, climate resilience, forests, wetlands and coral reefs. The region’s climate needs are diverse, so local partnerships help shape projects around different places and priorities.

--------------------------------------

Pick a line and follow it to the Moon 🌕🚀

For World Space Week, we’re looking at some of the German contributions behind NASA’s Artemis missions and the technology that help make deep-space exploration possible.

🛰️ Airbus leads the build of Orion’s European Service Module, assembled in Bremen. It provides propulsion, power, water, oxygen and thermal control for the spacecraft.

🔥 ArianeGroup supplies propulsion hardware for the Service Module, including 24 attitude-control thrusters that help Orion turn and maneuver in space, as well as propellant-system components.

🔌 Leoni supplies cables for the Service Module’s onboard data network, carrying critical information between its systems.

☢️ DLR, Germany’s aerospace research centre, developed radiation detectors that flew aboard Orion to measure the space radiation environment and help researchers understand how to protect astronauts.

Different contributions, one shared mission: taking humans farther into space. Which line did you follow first? 👀

Democracy cannot be taken for granted. It must be protected and lived out every day.

Germany experienced this throughout its history: in 1919, the first German democracy was established. In 1933, it came to an end. What followed was dictatorship, war, and the division of Germany, symbolised by the Berlin Wall. Places such as Niederkirchnerstraße in Berlin serve as reminders of this history.

In 1990, 36 years ago, unity in freedom was chosen. It was made possible by the peaceful revolution of people in East Germany and enabled through international diplomacy.

Divided by history. United by choice.

Which decisions have shaped your country? 👇

One chapter closes — but the connections continue. 🇱🇦✨
Happy to have joined the CEGGA II Closing Event in Vientiane on 23 September 2026. More than a closing event, it was a moment to celebrate shared experiences, great conversations and the people behind the programme. 🙏🌱

The good news: the Lao side takes more and more ownership and there is good reason for hope that there will be Team Europe and German support for the cause also in future.
