APREN to attend The Lao Civil Society Coordination Committee (LCCC), in collaboration with ASEAN partners and development agencies, successfully convened the official opening of the ASEAN Civil Society & Partners Exchange Conference on Gender and Climate Change on November 21, 2025, at the Lao Plaza Hotel.
This high-level conference was meticulously designed to address the critical intersection of climate action, gender equality, and social inclusion (GEDSI) across the Southeast Asian region.
The Opening Ceremony established a vital tone of collaboration and concerted action through remarks by esteemed speakers: H.E. Ph.D. Vilayvong Bouddakham, Vice Chief of the Central Committee for Organization and Personnel (CCOP); H.E. Ambassador Hans-Ulrich Südbeck, German Embassy to Lao PDR; and Dr. Chansy Phimphachanh, Chairperson of the Lao CSO Coordination Committee (LCCC).
The conference served as a critical platform to address the urgent need for integrating Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) into regional climate action strategies. Following powerful opening remarks, participants engaged in focused sessions showcasing CSO success stories, fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships, and breaking into groups to generate solutions on key thematic areas, including:
• GEDSI and Disaster Risk Reduction
• GEDSI and Solid Waste Management
• GEDSI and Water Governance
The day culminated in the drafting of a joint "Call to Action" document, consolidating regional recommendations for a more inclusive and effective path forward on climate resilience, with an eye toward future international events such as COP30.
The LCCC remains committed to continuing this vital collaboration to ensure that the voices of those most vulnerable to climate change are heard, valued, and reflected in policy and governance across the ASEAN region.
