๐ŸŒŽWeโ€™re proud to use the UKCIF Disability Inclusion Checklist as part of the Millennium Highway West Coast Road Reconstruction Project. This innovative tool is a game changer for infrastructure projects across our country and our region.
โ™ฟIt enables project teams to embed accessibility and inclusion from the startโ€”supporting better outcomes for persons with disabilities and communities as a whole.
๐Ÿ†Inclusive by design. Sustainable by impact.

When people think about protecting the environment, they often think about forests, beaches, and wildlife. But resilience is also built through the infrastructure that helps communities live safely alongside nature.

Across the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Reconstruction Project, drainage improvements are helping to manage stormwater, reduce erosion risks, and strengthen the resilience of the West Coast Road corridor.

This reel highlights examples from both Cul De Sac and Anse Galet, where culvert infrastructure plays an important role in safely conveying water beneath the roadway and protecting surrounding communities and assets.

Some of this work is already complete. Some is still taking shape. Together, these improvements form part of a broader effort to build infrastructure that is safer, stronger, and better prepared for the impacts of extreme weather.

Because what happens beneath the road matters just as much as what happens on top of it.

๐ŸŒŽ Happy World Environment Day.

๐Ÿ“ข PUBLIC NOTICE TO RESIDENTS AND MOTORISTS

Motorists and residents are advised that works are scheduled to commence on the box culvert at Anse Galet as part of ongoing improvements along the West Coast Road corridor.

During these operations, steel cage units will be transported from Cul-de-Sac to the project site at Anse Galet. This activity will involve the movement of heavy equipment and oversized loads along the Anse La Raye main access road.

These activities are scheduled to take place on:

๐Ÿ“… Thursday 28th May 2026
๐Ÿ•˜ 9:00 a.m. โ€“ 12:00 p.m.

Road users are asked to exercise caution, particularly near corners and areas with restricted visibility, and to follow the instructions of traffic personnel who will be on site to coordinate the safe movement of vehicles and equipment.

Residents and motorists are also kindly asked to avoid parking along sections of the Anse La Raye main access road during this period, where possible, to facilitate the safe and efficient passage of equipment.

We thank the public for its continued patience and cooperation as these essential infrastructure works progress.

Today, the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Reconstruction Project opened the corridor to a new generation of engineers, builders and problem-solvers.

Students from Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and TVET institutions stepped beyond the classroom and onto one of Saint Luciaโ€™s most climate-vulnerable transport corridors โ€” exploring firsthand how resilient infrastructure is designed, built and adapted for a changing climate.

From engineered drainage systems and retaining structures to bridge and culvert interventions, the Technical Site Briefing and Guided Project Tour offered students the opportunity to connect theory with practice in a real-world environment shaped by geography, weather and national need.

But perhaps most importantly, the experience offered perspective.

Because the future of climate resilience in Saint Lucia will depend not only on the infrastructure we build today โ€” but on the people who will carry that work forward tomorrow.

๐ŸŽฅ Watch highlights from the tour.

Today students of Engineering and Building Construction from SALCC, Comprehensive and TVET schools are getting a close up view of the Climate Resilience design considerations behind the Millennium Highway Reconstruction Project. We start with a technical briefing by engineers Jodie Fontenard and Nicole Magloire from the Engineering Consultant Firm of FDL Consult. Then we go on the road to tour four sites.

Big thanks to the Ministry of Education (TVET Unit) for the willing partnership to help students bridge the classroom learning with the real life context.

You can usually tell when a project is moving forward by the arrival of the utility teams.

At En Champagne in Anse La Raye, utility-related works are now underway as preparations continue at the designated relocation site for Project Affected Persons (PAPs).

These works are part of the broader effort to ensure the site is equipped and ready to support homeowners being relocated under the Project.

Progress isnโ€™t always loud.
Sometimes it looks like pipes, valves, utility trucks โ€” and the quiet work of preparing a place for people to start again.

Taking shape โ€” and opening new opportunities.

Construction of the Roseau Food & Souvenir Market is progressing steadily, with structures now clearly taking form.

Developed under the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Reconstruction Projectโ€™s Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), this new space will support vendors with a more secure and organised environment.

Step by step, the future of the Roseau Market is being built.

Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s happening now at Anse Galet.

Works are currently underway as part of the installation of the box culvert, with heavy equipment and materials being moved into position on site.

As these activities continue, road users can expect traffic management in the area.

Please proceed with caution, especially near corners and areas with limited visibility, and follow directions from traffic controllers on site.

We appreciate your patience as these works progress.
