National Solid Waste Management Support Center of Sri Lanka and Waste Management Authority of Western province working with JICA to formulate a master plan on Waste management in western province for next 20 years (till 2040). Under this project, JICA took action to provide PPE's to be distributed among Local authorities in western province. These PPE's will be given to persons involved in Waste management to minimize covid risk. From lefs to right , Dr Serasingha and Ms Tomita of JICA , Hon. Compost Sieve machine provided to Kawashima compost plants. This consists of convener belt and loading hopper

6th Kawashima compost plant at Addalachchani was put into operation by Hon. Governor of Eastern province, Mrs. Anuradha Yahampath on 13th July 2020.
These plants are automatic and can compost 50 Tons/day of bio degradable waste and expected compost production is 10-15 Tons/day.
Normally composting takes around 90 days. but in this technique, waste gets composted within around 30-45 days depending on the characteristics of waste.
