H.E. Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed presented copies of Credentials as Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Cuba (non resident), to Mr. Elio Rodríguez Perdomo, Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations.

During the meeting, both parties ratified the commitment to continue strengthening the bilateral relations and enlarge the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Maldives

Embajadora visita Instituto Nacional de Ciencias del Deporte

Colombo, 13 de mayo de 2026. La Embajadora Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, visitó el Instituto Nacional de Ciencias del Deporte ( ) de , donde fue recibida por el director Sajith Galle, su equipo de trabajo y funcionarios del Ministerio de Juventud y Deportes.
Durante el encuentro, las partes intercambiaron sobre las condiciones existentes para el reinicio de la cooperación bilateral en diferentes áreas del deporte y la educación física, en virtud del MoU vigente.
Los anfitriones explicaron a la diplomática la estructura y principales actividades del Instituto en materia de educación, entrenamiento e investigaciones, al tiempo que comentaron las especialidades deportivas más populares en Sri Lanka, incluidas las que muestran mejores resultados a nivel olímpico y regional.
Con un profundo sentimiento recíproco de orgullo se hizo alusión a los esrilanqueses que cursaron estudios en y se graduaron de la antigua Escuela Internacional de Educación Física y Deportes ( ), así como a la presencia actual de 4 de ellos en varias instancias del Ministerio de Juventud y Deportes, con un desempeño destacado y altas responsabilidades, 2 de los cuales participaron en el encuentro. Otros 4 trabajan en diferentes universidades del país, también vinculados al deporte.
Las partes coincidieron que fue un encuentro excelente.

Ambassador pays Courtesy Call to Mayor of Colombo.

Colombo, May 11, 2026. Ambassador Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra paid a courtesy call to Her Worship, Mayor of the City of Colombo Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar.
During the meeting, Her Worship conveyed words of sympathy, friendship, solidarity and respect to the people of and the Revolution.
She expressed her willingness to work with the Embassy in strengthening the longstanding relations between the two countries.
The Cuban diplomat shared some ideas about possible projects of bilateral cooperación on issues of common interest.
The Mayor was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner and other members of the Municipal Council.

Embajadora realiza visita de cortesía a la Alcaldesa de Colombo.
Colombo, 11 de mayo de 2026. La Embajadora Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, realizó visita de cortesía a la Alcaldesa de la Ciudad de Colombo, Sra. Vraie Cally Balthazaar.
Durante el encuentro, la Alcaldesa expresó su admiración, amistad, solidaridad y respeto hacia el pueblo y la Revolución cubana. Trasladó su voluntad para trabajar con la Embajada en el fortalecimiento de las relaciones históricas existentes entre ambos países.
Por su parte, la diplomática compartió ideas sobre posibles proyectos de intercambio y cooperación bilateral en temas de interés común.
Participaron en el encuentro, el Vice Alcalde y otros miembros del Consejo Municipal.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කියුබානු ජනරජයේ තානාපති පැට්‍රීෂියා ලාසාරා පෙගෝ ගුවේරා මහත්මිය (Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra) ඊයේ (06) ශ්‍රී ලංකා පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ දී කථානායක වෛද්‍ය ජගත් වික්‍රමරත්න මහතා හමුවිය.
පාර්ලිමේන්තු මහලේකම් කුෂානි රෝහණදීර මහත්මිය ද මෙම අවස්ථාවට සහභාගී වූවාය.
මෙම හමුවේ දී දෙපාර්ශ්වයම ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සහ කියුබාව අතර වසර 65 කට අධික ශක්තිමත් සහ මිත්‍රශීලී ද්විපාර්ශ්වික සබඳතා නැවත තහවුරු කළහ.
කථානායකවරයා තානාපතිවරියගේ පත්වීම පිළිබඳව සුබ පැතුම් එක් කරමින් දෙරට අතර කල් පවතින මිත්‍රත්වය සිහිපත් කළේය.
එසේම චේ ගුවේරා, ෆිදෙල් කැස්ත්‍රෝ ඇතුළු කීර්තිමත් කියුබානු නායකයින්ගේ භූමිකාව ද කථානායකවරයාගේ ඇගයීමට ලක්විය.
බහුපාර්ශ්වික ජාත්‍යන්තර සැසිවාරයන්හී දි, විශේෂයෙන් එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මානව හිමිකම් කවුන්සිලයේ සැසිවාරවල දී, කියුබාව ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සඳහා දැක්වූ අඛණ්ඩ සහයෝගය පිළිබඳව කථානායකවරයා සිය කෘතඥතාව පළ කළේය.
කියුබාවේ පවතින දියුණු වෛද්‍ය ක්ෂේත්‍රය කථානායකවරයා ඇගයීමට ලක් කළ අතර තමා වෛද්‍ය ශිෂ්‍යයෙකු ලෙස සිටි කාලය තුළ සුවිශේෂී කැපවීමකින් හා මානුෂීය ගුණාංගයන්ගෙන් යුතුව ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සේවය කළ කියුබානු වෛද්‍යවරුන් පිළිබඳව ඔහුගේ මතකය ගෞරවයෙන් සිහිපත් කළේය.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ඩෙංගු මර්දනය සඳහා සහාය වීම පිළිබඳව කියුබානු රජයට කථානායකවරයා සිය කෘතඥතාව පළ කළ අතර, විශේෂයෙන් කියුබානු දියුණු වෛද්‍ය තාක්ෂණික සහය තුළින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සෞඛ්‍ය සේවා අංශය සංවර්ධනය කිරීමේදී අඛණ්ඩ සහයෝගය අපේක්ෂා කරන බව පැවසීය.
පාර්ලිමේන්තු රාජ්‍ය තාන්ත්‍රිකත්වයේ වැදගත්කම අවධාරණය කරමින්, ශ්‍රී ලංකා - කියුබානු පාර්ලිමේන්තු මිත්‍රත්ව සංගමය මගින් ද්විපාර්ශ්වික සහයෝගීතාව තවදුරටත් ශක්තිමත් කිරීමේ හැකියාව කථානායකවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.
මෙහි දී අදහස් දක්වමින් තානාපතිනිය වන පෙගෝ ගුවේරා මහත්මිය කියුබාවේ කල් පවතින මිත්‍රත්වය සහ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට ලබා දෙන අඛණ්ඩ සහයෝගය නැවත තහවුරු කළේය.
ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජයේ කළමනාකරණ හැකියාව, විශේෂයෙන් දිට්වා සුළි කුණාටුවෙන් පසු රට යථාවත් කිරීම සඳහා රජය කඩිනම් පියවර ගැනීම පිළිබඳ ඇය ප්‍රශංසා කළාය.
ද්විපාර්ශ්වික සබඳතා තවදුරටත් වැඩිදියුණු කිරීම සඳහා පාර්ලිමේන්තු නියෝජිත කණ්ඩායමක් සමඟ කියුබාවට පැමිණෙන ලෙස ද තානාපතිවරිය කථානායකවරයාට ආරාධනා කළාය.
කියුබානු ශිෂ්‍යත්ව වැඩසටහන් හරහා අධ්‍යාපනය, ක්‍රීඩා අංශයේ සංවර්ධනය සහ අන්‍යෝන්‍ය ප්‍රතිලාභ සඳහා වැවිලි කර්මාන්තයේ සහයෝගීතාවය වැනි ක්ෂේත්‍රවල සහයෝගීතාව පුළුල් කිරීම කෙරෙහි ද සාකච්ඡාවේ දී අවදානය යොමු විය.
මෙම හමුවෙන් අනතුරුව, තානාපතිවරිය ශ්‍රී ලංකා - කියුබා පාර්ලිමේන්තු මිත්‍රත්ව සංගමයේ සාමාජිකයින් පිරිසක් ද හමුවී ද්විපාර්ශ්වික සබඳතා තවදුරටත් ශක්තිමත් කිරීම පිළිබඳව සුහද සාකච්ඡාවක නිරත විය.

இலங்கைக்கான கியூபா தூதுவர் கௌரவ சபாநாயகரைச் சந்தித்தார்

கியூப குடியரசின் இலங்கைக்கான தூதுவர் மாண்புமிகு பட்ரீஷிலா லசாரா பெரோ குவேரா, கௌரவ சபாநாயகர் (வைத்தியர்) ஜகத் விக்கிரமரத்ன அவர்களை நேற்று (06) பாராளுமன்றத்தில் சந்தித்துக் கலந்துரையாடினார். இச்சந்திப்பில் பாராளுமன்றத்தின் செயலாளர் நாயகம் குஷானி ரோஹணதீரவும் கலந்துகொண்டார்.
இலங்கைக்கும் கியூபாவுக்கும் இடையில் 65 வருடங்களுக்கு மேலாக நீடித்துவரும் நெருக்கமான, வலுவான உறவுகளை இரு தரப்பினரும் மீண்டும் உறுதிப்படுத்தினர்.
இலங்கைக்கான கியூப தூதுவராக நியமிக்கப்பட்டமைக்குத் தனது வாழ்த்துக்களைத் தெரிவித்த கௌரவ சபாநாயகர், இரு நாடுகளுக்கும் இடையில் காணப்படும் தொடர்புகளை நினைவு கூர்ந்தார். கியூபாவின் தலைவர்களான ஃபிடெல் கஸ்ட்ரோ மற்றும் சேகுவாரா ஆகியோருக்கு தனது மரியாதையைச் செலுத்திய அவர், சர்வதேச ஒற்றுமையை வலுப்படுத்துவதில் அவர்கள் ஆற்றிய பங்களிப்புகளைப் பாராட்டினார்.
ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவையின் தொடர்ச்சியான அமர்வுகள் உள்ளிட்ட பல்தரப்புத் தளங்களில் கியூபா இலங்கைக்கு தொடர்ச்சியாக வழங்கிவரும் ஆதரவுகளுக்கும் சபாநாயகர் தனது மனமார்ந்த நன்றியை தெரிவித்தார்.
கியூபாவின் மேம்பட்ட மருத்துவத் துறையை அவர் பாராட்டியதுடன், தாம் மருத்துவ மாணவராக இருந்த காலத்தில் இலங்கையில் பணியாற்றிய கியூபா நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த மருத்துவர்கள் மிகுந்த அர்ப்பணிப்பும் மனிதநேயமும் கொண்டு சேவையாற்றிய தனிப்பட்ட அனுபவங்களையும் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார்.
இலங்கையில் டெங்கு நோயை கட்டுப்படுத்துவதற்கு வழங்கிய உதவிக்கு கியூபா அரசாங்கத்துக்கு சபாநாயகர் தனது நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்ததுடன், கியூபாவில் காணப்படும் மேம்பட்ட மருத்துவ தொழில்நுட்பங்களுக்கான அணுகுமுறையின் ஊடாக இலங்கையின் சுகாதாரத் துறையை அபிவிருத்தி செய்யத் தொடர்ந்தும் ஆதரவு வழங்குமாறு கோரிக்கை விடுத்தார்.
பாராளுமன்ற ஜனநாயகத்தின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை அவர் வலியுறுத்தியதுடன்> இலங்கை – கியூபா பாராளுமன்ற நட்புறவு சங்கத்தின் ஊடாக பல்வேறு துறைகளில் இருதரப்பு ஒத்துழைப்பை மேலும் வலுப்படுத்த முடியும் என்றார்.
இலங்கைக்கு கியூபா தொடர்ந்து வழங்கி வரும் நிலையான ஆதரவை மீண்டும் உறுதிப்படுத்திய கியூப தூதுவர், தித்வா சூறாவளியின் தாக்கத்தை தாக்கத்தைக் குறைப்பதில் இலங்கை அரசு மேற்கொண்ட பயனுள்ள நடவடிக்கைகள் உள்ளிட்ட ஆட்சிமுறை முயற்சிகளைப் பாராட்டினார்.
இரு நாட்டுக்கும் இடையிலான உறவுகளை மேலும் வலுப்படுத்தும் வகையில் பாராளுமன்றத் தூதுக் குழுவுடன் கியூபாவுக்கு விஜயத்தை மேற்கொள்ளுமாறும் அவர், சபாநாயகருக்கு அழைப்பு விடுத்தார்.
கியூபாவினால் வழங்கப்படும் புலமைப்பரிசில் திட்டங்கள், விளையாட்டுத் துறையின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கான ஒத்துழைப்புக்கள், பரஸ்பர நன்மை அளிக்கும் வகையில் பெருந்தோட்டத் துறையின் அபிவிருத்திக்கான ஒத்துழைப்புக்கள் உள்ளிட்ட விடயங்கள் குறித்தும் இச்சந்திப்பில் கலந்துரையாடப்பட்டது.
இந்தச் சந்திப்பைத் தொடர்ந்து இலங்கை – கியூபா பாராளுமன்ற நட்புறவு சங்கத்தின் பிரதிநிதிகளுடன் கலந்துரையாடலொன்றும் இடம்பெற்றது.

Ambassador of Cuba Calls on Hon. Speaker of Parliament

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Sri Lanka, H.E. Ms. Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, at the Parliament of Sri Lanka yesterday (06). The Secretary-General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, was also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed the longstanding and cordial relations between Sri Lanka and Cuba, highlighting over 65 years of strong and friendly bilateral ties.
The Hon. Speaker congratulated the Ambassador on her recent appointment and recalled the enduring friendship between the two nations. He also paid tribute to distinguished Cuban leaders, including Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, acknowledging their contributions to strengthening international solidarity.
The Speaker expressed sincere appreciation for Cuba’s consistent support for Sri Lanka at multilateral forums, particularly at successive sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council, where Cuba has delivered statements in support of Sri Lanka.
He further commended Cuba’s advanced medical sector and shared his personal experiences with Cuban doctors who served in Sri Lanka with exceptional dedication and compassion during his time as a medical student. The Speaker extended his gratitude to the Government of Cuba for its assistance in combating dengue in Sri Lanka and sought continued support in developing Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector, particularly through access to advanced Cuban medical technology.
Emphasizing the importance of Parliamentary diplomacy, the Speaker noted the potential to further strengthen bilateral cooperation through the Sri Lanka - Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association across multiple sectors.
Ambassador Pego Guerra reaffirmed Cuba’s enduring friendship and continued support for Sri Lanka. She commended the Government of Sri Lanka’s efforts in governance, particularly its effective response in mitigating the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.
The Ambassador extended an invitation to the Hon. Speaker to visit Cuba with a Parliamentary delegation to further enhance bilateral relations.
Discussions also focused on expanding cooperation in areas such as education through Cuban scholarship programmes, development of the sports sector, and collaboration in the plantation industry for mutual benefit.
Following the meeting, the Ambassador met with a group of members of the Sri Lanka - Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association and held cordial discussions on further strengthening bilateral relations.
