🟥Rainfall Situation (Past 24 Hours):
✏️Over the past 24 hours, rainfall was observed across many regions of Sri Lanka. The heavily affected areas include the Galle, Matara, Western, North Western (Wayamba), Sabaragamuwa, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
✏️Rainfall was also recorded in the Monaragala, Ampara, Batticaloa, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, and Jaffna districts.
✏️The highest rainfall was recorded in the Hiniduma area of the Galle district, which received close to 100 mm. In general, most river basins located within the Wet Zone received rainfall ranging between 50 and 100 mm.
🟥Water Level & Flood Warning:
✏️Water levels in the Nilwala, Gin, Kalu, Kelani, Attanagalu Oya, and Maha Oya rivers currently show a significant increase.
✏️The water levels in the downstream areas of these rivers are presently close to the warning level.
✏️However, despite these elevated water levels, no rapid escalation into a major flood situation has been observed in any river basin so far.
🟥Special Instructions:
✏️While there are no major flood situations currently, the localized and sudden intense rainfall experienced during the evening hours poses a risk of rapid, localized submersion of low-lying areas.
✏️The Department of Meteorology has forecast significant rainfall exceeding 100 mm across many areas, particularly covering the Wet Zone and the Central province.
✏️Because the water levels in the Nilwala, Gin, Kelani, Kalu, and Attanagalu Oya rivers are already at an elevated capacity, there is a strong possibility that water levels will increase further with the expected ✏️rainfall. Therefore, residents in these areas are strictly advised to remain highly vigilant.
✏️The Irrigation Department expects to continuously monitor the situation and issue further warnings and updates from time to time based on the receiving rainfall.
