A massive diamond crystal has just been discovered in Botswana. Believed to be the 3rd largest gem-quality diamond crystal in the world, it weighs 1,098.3 carats, just after the 3,106 carat Cullinan and the 1,109 carat Lesedi la Rona. Seen here is President of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi unveiling the crystal to the public on June 16, 2021. He has said that the sale of the diamond will be used to "advance national development." The company that mined the diamond, Debswana, stated: "Debswana will work with the Government of the Republic of Botswana and De Beers to value and sell the diamond to ensure it returns maximum benefit for the people of Botswana." The size and clarity of this diamond make it the rarest of the rare. No wonder the mine where it was found, the Jwaneng, is known as the prince of mines! Photo: Monirul Bhuiyan/AFP via Getty Images
