Yesterday, we bid farewell to our dear staff member, Ms. Kavindi, who has been an essential part of the our office for the past two years.

As our receptionist, she was much more than the welcoming face of the office. With her constant willingness to help and her warm smile, she supported the daily operations of the office and assisted everyone around her. It would be hard to find someone here who has not benefited from her dedication.

Through her quiet commitment and sincere support, she helped create a welcoming and collaborative environment for us all.

As she steps into a new chapter, we sincerely wish her every success and happiness ahead.

On 29 October 2025, five new volunteers from the Korea International Cooperation Agency arrived in Sri Lanka under the WFK Program. This dispatch marks the 81st group of WFK volunteers assigned to partner institutions in Sri Lanka since the program’s launch in 1991.

The newly dispatched volunteers will be working in the following fields and institutions:

Mr. Kangjin Lee: Rathmalana TC / Electrical & Power Engineering
Ms. Kyounghwa Kim: Rathmalana TC / Korean Language Education (EPS-TOPIK)
Mr. Seokyong Cho: Open University / Korean Language (General)
Mr. Jeonghwan Jeon: Rathmalana TC / Automobile Engineering
Mr. Duckwoo Lee: Matara TC / Korean Language Education (EPS-TOPIK)

After completing their local orientation and adaptation training, all five volunteers were officially placed at their respective partner institutions on 8 December 2025.

We hope that every experience and effort they build in Sri Lanka will serve as a meaningful bridge—connecting people to people, and bringing Korea and Sri Lanka closer together.
Please join us in extending your warm support and encouragement to our five volunteers as they begin this new journey. 🌱

지난 2025년 10월 29일, 한국국제협력단 소속 월드프렌즈코리아 프로그램 봉사단원 5명이 스리랑카에 도착했습니다. 이번 파견은 1991년 프로그램 시작 이후 스리랑카 내 협력기관에 파견된 제 81기 봉사단원입니다.

이번에 파견된 단원들은 아래의 기관에서 각자의 분야에서 활동할 예정입니다.

이강진 단원: 라트말라나 기술대학 / 전기·전력 분야
김경화 단원: 라트말라나 기술대학 / 한국어교육(EPS-TOPIK)
조석용 단원: 개방대학교 / 한국어(일반)
전정환 단원: 라트말라나 기술대학 / 자동차 분야
이덕우 단원: 마타라 기술대학 / 한국어교육(EPS-TOPIK)

다섯 명의 단원들은 현지 적응 훈련을 모두 마친 후 2025년 12월 8일, 각 협력기관에 공식 배치되었습니다.

새롭게 도착한 다섯 명의 봉사 단원들이 스리랑카에서 쌓아갈 경험과 노력 하나하나가 사람과 사람을 잇고, 한국과 스리랑카를 더욱 가깝게 만드는 소중한 연결 고리가 되기를 바랍니다.

✈ Fellowship Program for Career Guidance Professional Leaders ✈

From 27th October to 14th November, we conducted a Fellowship Program for Career Guidance Professional Leaders in Korea. Through this fellowship program, participants enhanced their capacities in various areas, including the use of digital employment services, psychological assessment–based career counseling, and understanding Korea’s vocational education and training systems.

As part of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Career Platform Project in Sri Lanka (2022–2026 / USD 6 million), the CareerOne platform—officially launched in January 2025—has supported more than 7,187 vocational trainees across 87 institutions.

We hope that even more Sri Lankan youth will be able to ensure more equitable access employment opportunities through this initiative. And pleased to share related local media articles and link.💜

✈커리어원 플랫폼 경력개발지도사 국내 초청 연수✈

지난 10월 27일부터 11월 14일까지 커리어원 플래폼 경력개발지도사 10인을 대상으로 국내 초청 연수를 진행했습니다. 해당 연수를 통해 한국의 디지털 고용서비스 기술 전파, 심리검사를 통한 커리어 상담, 직업교육 시스템 안내 등 역량 강화를 지원했습니다.

스리랑카 경력개발 플랫폼을 활용한 직업기술교육훈련생 취업지원사업('22-'26/600만불)의 일환으로 런칭된 커리어원 플랫폼은 2025년 1월 공식 운영 이후 87개 기관의 7,187명이 넘는 직업훈련생이 이용하고 있습니다.

앞으로 더 많은 스리랑카 청년들이 포용적인 취업 기회를 얻을 수 있길 바라며, 관련 현지 언론 기사 링크와 사진을 공유합니다.💜

On 31 October 2025, the Government Analyst’s Department (GAD) held the Closing Ceremony of Strengthen Capacity Building of Forensic Durg Analysis in the Criminal Justice System in Sri Lanka Project.🧪

The event was graced by the participation of the Deputy Minister of Justice of Sri Lanka, who delivered a commemorative speech emphasizing that the project has made a significant contribution to strengthening the country’s capacity to combat drug-related crimes.

Implemented jointly by the National Forensic Service (NFS) of Korea and KOICA from 2021 to 2025, the project supported the establishment of a drug analysis database, renovation of laboratories, provision of analytical equipment, and capacity-building programmes, including master’s degree training in Korea and expert exchanges.

At the event, Ms. Lee Yooli, Country Director of KOICA Sri Lanka Office, stated that “Amid the growing global challenge of drug-related crimes, this project has been a timely and meaningful cooperation,” adding that “its achievements will further strengthen Sri Lanka’s criminal justice system and contribute to building a safer society.”

KOICA will continue to work hand in hand with Sri Lanka on its journey toward sustainable development, and we look forward to your continued interest and support.

지난 10월 31일, 스리랑카 정부분석국(GAD)에서 ‘스리랑카 사법체계의 마약 분석 역량 강화사업’의 종료 보고회가 열렸습니다.🧪

이번 행사에는 스리랑카 법무부 차관이 참석하여 기념사를 전하며, 본 사업의 성과가 국가 차원의 마약 대응 역량 강화에 중대한 기여를 했음을 강조했습니다.
이 사업은 2021년부터 2025년까지 4년간 KOICA와 국립과학수사연구원(NFS)이 함께 추진해온 프로젝트로, 마약 분석 데이터베이스 구축, 실험실 개보수 및 장비 지원, 그리고 분석관들의 역량 강화를 위해 한국 석사과정 연수와 전문가 교류 프로그램 등을 진행했습니다.

행사에 참석한 이유리 코이카 스리랑카 소장은 “전 세계적으로 심각해지고 있는 마약 문제 속에서 이번 사업은 매우 시의적절하고 의미 있는 협력”이라며, “이 성과가 앞으로도 스리랑카의 형사사법체계를 더욱 강화하고 보다 안전한 사회를 만드는 데 기여하길 기대한다”고 전했습니다.

🏫 Handover Ceremony of National College of Education on Technology🏫

On 3 November 2025, the handover ceremony of the National College of Education for Technology, established by KOICA in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka in the Kurunegala District (Kuliyapitiya area), was finally held.

Over 200 participants, including H.E. Mi-Yeon Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka, and Hon. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, attended the event to celebrate the milestone.

The college, Sri Lanka’s first four-year teacher training institution for technology education, aims to enhance the quality of technical education by training new teachers and providing re-training programmes in Engineering Technology, Bio-System Technology, and Information Technology.

KOICA also supported the school operation plan, curriculum and textbook development, and capacity-building programmes for stakeholders.
KOICA expresses sincere appreciation to all partner organisations for their cooperation and looks forward to continued collaboration.

🏫국립기술교육대 준공식🏫

2025년 11월 3일, KOICA가 스리랑카 교육부와 협력하여 쿨리야피티야 지역에 설립한 국립기술교육대학교의 준공식이 마침내 개최되었습니다. 준공식에는 이미연 주스리랑카 대한민국 대사, 하리니 아마라수리야 스리랑카 총리 등 200여명의 관계자가 참석하여 그간의 협력활동의 결실을 확인하고 앞으로 학교의 지속적인 발전을 기원하였습니다.

국립기술교육대학교는 스리랑카 최초의 4년제 기술교사 전문교육기관으로 스리랑카 기술교육의 질적 향상을 지원하기 위해 설립되었습니다. 국립기술교육대학은 공학기술, 생명시스템기술, 정보기술분야의 예비교사(학사)를 양성하고 동 분야 교사의 재교육을 통해 국가 전반의 기술 역량 강화를 지원합니다. 한국국제협력단은 학교 건축 외에도 학교운영계획 수립, 커리큘럼 및 교재 개발, 이해관계자의 초청, 현지연수를 통한 역량강화를 제공하였습니다.

On 20th September 2025, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Education Southern Province (SPED) held an event titled “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies: Children’s Wellness Awareness Day - 2025” at the Non-Formal Education Resource Centre, Galle. The event was organized to promote good hygiene practices and healthy eating habits among school students and their parents, while fostering networking and knowledge sharing among all participants.

The event was successfully carried out with nearly 100 participants including Korea Overseas Volunteers (KOV), Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), school students from five selected schools in the Galle District, as well as their parents and teachers.

The event was graced by the presence of the Country Director of KOICA Sri Lanka office Mrs. LEE YOOLI; Mrs. Chithra Bamunusinghe, Additional Director, Mrs. Prabhani Kulatunga, Deputy Director of Education, Dr. Amila Chandrasiri, Consultant Community Physician of RDHS, Galle and other dignitaries including the staff members of respective organizations.

Concluding the event, KOICA donated portable hand-wash sinks and hygiene kits to the students, as part of its commitment to providing convenient access to handwashing facilities. This initiative aims to support overall health, well-being, and consistent school attendance. Additionally, the students received school bags and event badges, in recognition of their active participation in the event.
