Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Hon. Ali Sabry, met the Egyptian Foreign Minister H.E. Sameh Shoukry, on the sidelines of the Special Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh on the 29th of April 2024.
During the meeting, both ministers discussed bilateral relations and explored avenues for enhancing cooperation between Sri Lanka and Egypt in various fields, including trade, investment, tourism, and culture. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Minister Shoukry welcomed the resumption of the foreign political consultation mechanism between the ministries of the two countries, and stressed Egypt's interest in strengthening investment and trade relations between the two countries, and welcomed the interest of Sri Lankan companies to invest in Egypt in view of the positive developments witnessed by the investment climate in Egypt over the past years, and the investment opportunities and incentives that Egypt can offer to Sri Lankan investors.
Minister Sabry emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries and expressed Sri Lanka's commitment to deepening cooperation with Egypt across multiple sectors. Minister Shoukry echoed these sentiments and affirmed Egypt's readiness to bolster collaboration with Sri Lanka for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The meeting underscored the significance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement in advancing shared objectives and fostering closer ties between Sri Lanka and Egypt.

Egyptian Ambassador H.E. Maged Mosleh Engages in Dialogue with SCAP Team
29 April 2024 – Following the chairmanship of Egypt in COP27, and previous engagements with the President’s Senior Advisor on Climate Change, Mr. Ruwan Wijewardhana; the Egyptian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, His Excellency Maged Mosleh met the SCAP (Sustainability and Climate Action Partnership) team, for a productive meeting.
The Ambassador engaged in a fruitful dialogue with SCAP members Mr. Ishara Adikaramge, Mr. Duminda Attygalle, and Mr. Hashan Jayakody, discussing avenues for collaborative action on sustainability and climate resilience and joint activities, such as beach cleaning, social responsibility and school and civil advocacy, which will uplift the lives of not only in Colombo but the other 08 province in Sri Lanka.
The meeting concluded with a shared vision of strengthening partnerships and mobilizing collective efforts towards a more sustainable and resilient future for all.

A bilateral discussion with Hon Nalin Fernando, Minister of Trade and Commerce was held on (26) at the Ministry. The meeting focused on enhancing trade relations and exploring avenues for economic cooperation between the two nations.
The Joint Commission for Technical and Economic Cooperation (JCTEC) for trade and economic cooperation and its 3rd upcoming sessions, Sustainable measures that can be taken to increase food security, and ways to further strengthen existing trade and investment and relations between the two countries were discussed here.
Ministry of Trade Commerce and Food Security Secretary Mr. A.M.P.M.B Athapaththu and officials of the Department of Commerce participated in the discussion.
