Our first leaflet with our project name by the Social Services of Colombo International School dedicated to saving the children of the Lady Ridgeway Nephrology Unit

Save a KIDney is a large scale social service project aimed to better the lives of the young children of Lady Ridgeway Hospital For Children. As the largest paediatric hospital in world with a bed-strength of over 900, its limited facilities for children are extremely outdated and not sufficient to cater to the demands of the many diseases associated with kidney function, for instance: chronic kidney disease, kidney failure, pyelonephritis, kidney cancer and urinary tract infection from severe dehydration. The patients are children below 12 years of age and of extremely poor families from rural and slum areas nationwide. Over 2000 children suffer from chronic kidney disease per year in Sri Lanka alone. Parents of whom are not able to pay the expenses, often end up with desperate mothers and fathers donating their own kidneys and totally stripping off everything they own, just to save their children’s lives.
