On 5 October 2026, Ambassador Damiano Francovigh visited St Mary’s School in Ja-Ela on the occasion of “Peace in South Asia”, a project promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the National Peace Park in the village of Sant’Anna di Stazzema and the non-profit organization Colors for Peace.
The project, implemented in Sri Lanka and the Maldives by the Italian Embassy in Colombo, aims to promote education in the values of peace and solidarity among younger generations through the creation of drawings that “tell” the story of peace through their eyes.
As part of the project, children aged 3 to 11 created drawings on the themes of peace and human rights and, in recognition of their participation, received a certificate appointing them as “Peace Ambassadors”.
The event was also attended by the Honorary Consul of Italy to the Maldives, Giorgia Marazzi, who handed over the drawings created by the children of Billabong High International School in Malé.
