The Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (SLAB) is the National Accreditation Authority for Sri Lanka established under the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment Act. No. 32 of 2005.The Board functions under purview of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and is governed by a Council of thirteen (13) members appointed in terms of the SLAB Act. The Board, as th
e National Accreditation Authority for Sri Lanka, has the responsibility to promote accreditation activities and provide the necessary accreditation services to facilitate conformity assessments in the provision of goods and services for domestic and export markets. This covers the Accreditation of Laboratories, Certification and Inspection Bodies providing various types of services to the Industry and the Business community and to the Government and the Consumer Public. SLAB in delivering accreditation services works closely with governmental organizations and professional bodies of which members represent different committees and perform activities that compromise confidentiality and impartiality of accreditation. However suitable steps are always taken to minimize or eliminate any conflict of interests that rest on each individual on accreditation. While assuring impartiality and confidentiality for accreditation as need arises, the SLAB may also participate at different forums organized by external organizations. International Recognition
SLAB is a Full Member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operations (ILAC) and is a signatory to the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) of ILAC. SLAB gained full membership and signatory status in the ILAC MRA in December 2009. SLAB is a Full Member of Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Co-operations (APLAC) and is a signatory to the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) of APLAC.
