Strengthening Teachers. Guiding Students. Shaping Futures. ๐ฑ
Every student deserves the guidance and support to recognise their strengths, navigate challenges and make informed decisions about their future.
Through our Girls Education & Gender Equality Program (GEP), Room to Read Sri Lanka works closely with the Ministry of Education to strengthen school-based counselling, career guidance and life skills education.
One such collaboration is the development of the Capacity Development Module on Student Counselling and Career Guidance, jointly created by the Co-curricular, Guidance and Counselling Branch of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education and Room to Read Sri Lanka.
Developed as part of the School Counselling and Career Guidance (C2) initiative, this comprehensive resource aims to strengthen the capacities of teachers responsible for managing School Counselling and Career Guidance Centres (C2 Centres), equipping them with the knowledge, skills and practical approaches to better support students.
The module comprises 21 sessions covering two key areas:
๐ Student Counselling (15 sessions): Understanding child and adolescent development, mental health, psychosocial well-being, counselling approaches and the role of teachers in supporting students.
๐ Career Guidance (6 sessions): Helping students recognise their strengths, explore educational and career pathways, access relevant information and make informed choices about their futures.
Building on a five-day counselling capacity development programme conducted in June and July 2026, a Training of Trainers programme was held on 17 August, followed by a three-day Career Guidance workshop later, bringing together 46 school counselling and career guidance teachers from the North Central, North Western and Uva provinces.
Drawing on expertise from stakeholder institutions, these workshops used interactive, learner-centered approaches to help teachers translate the module's content into practical guidance and support for students.
This initiative reflects our continued collaboration with the Ministry of Education to strengthen school-based counselling, and #๐ฅ๐ข๐๐๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ education, helping create supportive learning environments where students can build , develop and navigate life's challenges.
When are equipped to guide and mentor, students are better supported to make informed choices and shape their own futures.
