"I am profoundly shocked and utterly heartbroken to hear of the tragic, untimely passing of young Nivin Kumarapperuma.
Nivin was the beloved son of my brother in profession, my dearest confidant, and lifelong friend, President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma. Upul is far more than just a colleague or a friend to me—he is family. Because of that, this loss cuts incredibly deep, and we grieve as one.
An alumnus of Royal College, Colombo, who went on to pursue his higher education in Canada, Nivin was a brilliant, promising young man with a bright future ahead of him. To lose a child so full of life, potential, and hope is a devastating, unimaginable tragedy. No words can heal an irreplaceable loss like this.
During this incredibly painful time, my family, my staff, and I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Upul. We extend our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to my dear brother Upul, his wife, and their grieving family. We are with you in this darkness.
May Upul and his loved ones find the extraordinary strength and courage needed to bear this profound, shattering grief.
