Empowering Communities, One Skill at a Time
The Sumaga Ruhunu Circle of the Deaf successfully completed the Bead Seed Jewellery Training Programme, supporting Deaf communities across Matara, Galle, and Hambantota to build essential livelihood skills and strengthen economic independence.
We were honoured to welcome Deputy High Commissioner Gabrielle Isaak, who recently visited our programme and recognized the importance of creating accessible, sustainable livelihood opportunities for the Deaf community. Her presence and encouragement added great value to this initiative and inspired our participants to continue building strong futures.
Through this training, Deaf women and youth learned hands-on techniques in jewellery design, production, and small-scale entrepreneurship—opening new opportunities for income generation and long-term financial stability.
Thanks to the generous support of the New Zealand High Commission, Sri Lanka Fund, our organization was able to bring this valuable project directly to the community, ensuring full accessibility through Sri Lankan Sign Language and a safe, inclusive learning environment.
While challenges in livelihood and economic opportunities continue, with the right support, Deaf communities can thrive, lead, and build resilient futures.
This programme is another step forward in empowering individuals to create sustainable livelihoods, strengthen families, and uplift entire communities.
At Sumaga Ruhunu Circle of the Deaf, we are committed to creating pathways for:
✅ Economic empowerment and entrepreneurship
✅ Inclusive vocational training
✅ Accessible education and sign language–based learning
✅ Stronger, self-reliant Deaf communities
Real change begins with one person, one family, one community.
Together, we can create a future where every Deaf individual has the opportunity to succeed.
Join us as we continue building a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.
