Today on International Women’s Day we are reminded of the importance of standing up for gender equality. But let’s not do that only on March 8, but on every day of the year, year after year. That is how we bridge the gender divide.

Yesterday I visited the Foya Borma hospital up in Lofa county for a ceremony where Eezer handed over four motorcycle ambulances to the hospital. These ambulances will significantly ease the ability of pregnant women to access local health and maternity clinics. The ambulances are entirely funded through private donations and a great example of the strong ties between Sweden and Liberia. Ties that will stay strong going forward, notwithstanding the closure of the embassy later this year.

Born perfect. Let her stay leh da!
Today is the international day of zero tolerance for female ge***al mutilation and I was very proud to join the launch of the Born Perfect bus tour in Totota, B**g county. A tour that will travel around the country. I hope today can be a call to action so that the current generation of leaders in Liberia can be reminded as the ones that put an end to FGM once and for all.

Sweden is supporting the work on transitional justice in Liberia, and the efforts to establish a war and economic crimes court to address the lack of accountability for crimes committed during the long years of war in Liberia.
Today I attended a public awareness session on transitional justice in Careysburg on the theme of ”Healing the nation through justice”.
At the session, I witnessed a room filled of people listening intently, raising their voices and asking many questions on this important process. It reinforced my belief that impunity can never stand for war crimes and that accountability is necessary for true reconciliation. While justice might be delayed, it does not need to be denied. On this, the world can hopefully learn a lot from Liberia in the years to come.
