Liberia joins the world in commemoration of Wold AIDS Day (WAD 2021).
This year's WAD was celebrated under the Global Theme: End Inequality, End AIDS, End Pademic.
December 1 is celebrated each year as World AIDS Day to help raise awareness (and life-changing funds) to fight HIV.
UNAIDS is highlighting the urgent need to end the inequalities that drive AIDS and other pandemics around the world.
Without bold action against inequalities, the world risks missing the targets to end AIDS by 2030, as well as a prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and a spiralling social and economic crisis.
Forty years since the first AIDS cases were reported, HIV still threatens the world. Today, the world is off track from delivering on the shared commitment to end AIDS by 2030 not because of a lack of knowledge or tools to beat AIDS, but because of structural inequalities that obstruct proven solutions to HIV prevention and treatment (UNAIDS 2021 WAD Statement).
Economic, social, cultural and legal inequalities must be ended as a matter of urgency if we are to end AIDS by 2030 (UNAIDS 2021 WAD Statement).

National AIDS Commission (NAC) and UNAIDS jointly launched Liberia's National Strategic Framework (NSP 2021-2025) and M&E Plan to meeting Global End AIDS Targets: 95-95-95.
The ambitious 95-95-95 strategy was announced by UNAIDS in 2014, aiming to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030 by achieving 95% diagnosed among all people living with HIV (PLHIV), 95% on antiretroviral therapy (ART) among diagnosed, and 95% virally suppressed (VS) among treated. An intermediate goal of 90-90-90 was set for 2020. These targets have been adopted by many countries including Liberia implying that treatment should be prioritized in resource allocation.
Mrs. Theodosia Kolee, Chairperson of the NAC said the NSP will guide the country in its implementation drive to ending AIDS in the country.
Also speaking, Dr. Pepukai Chikukwa, UNAIDS Country Director terms the Lauching of both plans -NSP and M&E Plan- as a step in the right direction for the country to meeting the Global targets.
The launched of the strategic framework documents to guide the national AIDS response was supported by the UNAIDS.
