The Judiciary of Lesotho has welcomed the publication of the Lesotho Law Reports, describing it as a significant milestone in preserving the country's judicial heritage and promoting access to justice through the development of local jurisprudence.
The reports were presented to the Chief Justice by Advocate Rasekoai on behalf of Rasekoai, Rampai & Lebakeng Attorneys and Michelle from LexisNexis. The publication contains landmark judgments of the superior courts and will be accessible through open-access platforms, making Lesotho's jurisprudence available locally and internationally.
Advocate Rasekoai thanked the Judiciary for its support and noted that the publication reflects the intellectual excellence of Lesotho's courts. Receiving the reports, the Chief Justice commended the initiative as an important contribution to legal scholarship, judicial accountability, and the preservation of the nation's legal heritage.
He emphasized the importance of law reports in strengthening the rule of law, promoting consistency in judicial decision-making, and encouraging reliance on Lesotho's own jurisprudence. The publication also enhances transparency and public access to judicial decisions.
Receiving the publication, the Chief Justice commended the initiative as an important step towards preserving and promoting Lesotho's legal heritage. He described law reporting as a critical tool in memorializing the Judiciary's intellectual and judicial endeavours and ensuring that future generations have access to the legal principles developed by the courts.
The Chief Justice emphasized that law reports play a vital role in strengthening the rule of law by providing reliable precedents that guide judicial decision-making and legal practice. He noted that judgments should be grounded in sound legal principles, tested jurisprudence, and established precedent to ensure consistency and certainty in the administration of justice.
He further encouraged legal practitioners, judicial officers, academics, and students to make regular use of law reports, stressing the importance of developing and relying on Lesotho's own jurisprudence. While foreign authorities may provide persuasive guidance, he emphasized that local judicial decisions should remain the primary source of authority within the country's legal system.
The publication of the Lesotho Law Reports represents a major contribution to legal scholarship, judicial accountability, and the continued development of the country's legal system. It also enhances public access to judicial decisions and promotes greater transparency within the administration of justice.

Insolvency Act (Commencement) Notice, 2025 - Legal Notice No. 56 of 2025
The Insolvency Act, 2022, will come into operation as per Legal Notice No. 56 of 2025, except for PART 8, which addresses the Insolvency Regulator. This section will come into effect at a later date, as determined by the Minister through a notice published in the Gazette.

Deputy Master and Assistants Master of the High Court, drawn from all districts of the country, are today concluding a two-day workshop facilitated by the Master of the High Court. The training session was aimed at deepening their understanding of the application and interpretation of the Insolvency Act, which came into operation on 1 April 2025 following its gazettement under Legal Notice No. 49 of 2022.
The Act repeals the Insolvency Proclamation of 1957 and provides for the regulation of insolvency practice, corporate rescue, and cross-border insolvency, among other key areas.
This training forms part of the Judiciary’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and to ensure the effective, efficient, and consistent administration of insolvency matters across the country. It focused on enhancing technical knowledge, improving procedural efficiency, and promoting uniformity in the handling of insolvency cases.

In Maseru, three Magistrates—Sekoati Hlophe, Letlatsa Letompa, and Thabo Chechela—were duly sworn into office at the Maseru Magistrate's Court on Monday, 27th April 2026. The oath of office formally commits them to administer justice impartially, uphold the Constitution, and faithfully discharge their judicial functions in accordance with the rule of law.
