World Water Day Commemoration at Ha Ralintši, Mafeteng
The Lesotho Lowlands Water Development and Sanitation Project Phase III (LLWDSP III) joined the World Water Day commemoration at Ha Ralintši.
This year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” highlights the strong connection between access to water and gender equality. It reminds us that water is not just a basic need—it is also a social and economic issue that affects men and women differently.
In many communities, especially in rural areas, women and girls bear the responsibility of collecting water—often walking long distances and spending hours each day. This limits opportunities for education, economic participation, and involvement in decision-making.
The theme calls for:
• Equitable access to water
• Empowerment of women and girls
• Inclusive decision-making
• Dignity and safety

Trade Testing for Artisans in Hlotse, Leribe.
The Lesotho Lowlands Water Development and Sanitation Project Phase III (LLWDSP III) continues to empower local communities through skills development and certification.
In partnership with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) through the Technical and Vocational Department (TVD), local artisans were tested in plumbing, electrical installation, welding, catering, sewing and textile, and automotive trades in Hlotse, Leribe.
This ongoing certification process equips artisans with nationally recognized qualifications, enabling them to seek employment or start their own businesses, thereby improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.
This initiative is supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
