Tšehlanyane Adit Tunnel Works – Progress Meeting (Contract W22)

China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), the contractor responsible for Contract W22, briefed key stakeholders, including the Commissioner of Water (CoW), Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA), Lesotho Lowlands Water Development Project Phase II (LLWDP II), and the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO), on the ongoing construction activities at the Tšehlanyane Adit Tunnel.

The meeting provided an update on the expansion and installation of water release infrastructure within the Tšehlanyane Adit tunnel, to augment water supply from Katse Dam to the Hlotse River during the low-flow seasons. Overall construction progress has reached 67%, with 666 metres of pipeline installed inside the tunnel to date.

Once completed, the tunnel rehabilitation and pipeline installation will play a vital role in enhancing bulk water transfer and improving water security for Hlotse, Maputsoe, and surrounding communities.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water supply infrastructure and improve the reliability of water services in northern Lesotho.

Tsehlanyane Adit Pipeline Installation Progress!!

Work is progressing on the installation of the bulk water supply pipeline inside the Tsehlanyane Adit. The pipeline will convey water released from the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) during the low-flow season to support water supply in Hlotse, Maputsoe, and villages along the route.

This important infrastructure will contribute to improved water security and reliable access to water for communities and industries in the Lowlands.
