The 9th session was convened by the African Union Commission and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) in Lusaka, Zambia, under the theme βStrengthening Humanitarian Governance and Advancing Protection and Solutions in Africa,β on the 3rd - 5th June 2026 focusing on refugee protection, internal displacement, statelessness, durable solutions, and humanitarian governance across the continent.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Police through the office of the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Lesotho participated. This important platform brings together policymakers, practitioners, and humanitarian actors from across Africa to strengthen our understanding and implementation of regional and international humanitarian frameworks. The discussions focus on refugee protection, internal displacement, statelessness, durable solutions, humanitarian governance, climate-related displacement, and the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.
As Africa continues to face complex humanitarian challenges driven by conflict, disasters, climate change, and forced displacement, collaborative approaches and strong institutions remain essential to ensuring protection, dignity, and sustainable solutions for affected populations. Lesotho remains committed to advancing the principles of solidarity, protection, and shared responsibility in addressing displacement and humanitarian concerns across our continent.
The Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Lesotho Ms Nthati Mosebi commended the African Union Commission, UNHCR, and all partners for their continued efforts in building capacity and strengthening humanitarian governance in Africa.
