🫒 If olives are a fruit, is olive oil a fruit juice?

Regardless of the answer, the European Union is the leading producer, consumer and exporter of olive oil, responsible for 6⃣8⃣% of the world’s olive oil production per year.

In May, Parliament gave its consent to the Council amending Article 36 of the 2015 International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives. Without this amendment, the 2015 agreement would have expired on 31 December 2026.

🤝 As the EU is a member of this agreement, any changes require its approval. And within the EU itself, the Parliament must provide the necessary consent.

But in this case, the approved change means the agreement can be extended for 5-year periods, ensuring:
✅ uninterrupted EU participation;
✅ protecting international trade and quality standards;
✅ protection of consumer rights;
✅ prevention of fraudulent and misleading practices.

Arbeitsunfälle betreffen Millionen Menschen in der gesamten EU.

Im Jahr 2023 kamen 3298 Menschen durch einen Arbeitsunfall ums Leben.

Das Europäische Parlament hat kürzlich Vorschläge zur Verringerung der Zahl arbeitsbedingter Unfälle, Erkrankungen und Todesfälle in der EU angenommen. Das Parlament fordert außerdem, den 8. August zum Europäischen Tag zum Gedenken an die Opfer von Arbeitsunfällen und für den Schutz und die Würde der Arbeitnehmer*innen zu erklären.

Dieser Tag soll das Bewusstsein für die Bedeutung von Prävention und Sicherheit am Arbeitsplatz in der Öffentlichkeit, in Unternehmen und in Institutionen schärfen.

Democratic participation starts with reliable information. ✅

📱 97% of young people aged 15-24 in the EU use the internet daily and social media platforms are becoming the main source of information for them.

MEPs therefore call for a common approach between the member states to recognise media literacy and digital learning as basic skills for everyone.

According to the new report:
🔹 media literacy and digital learning should be taught on all education levels and in the workplace,
🔹 minors in particular should be protected on video-sharing platforms,
🔹 AI-generated, AI-manipulated, and commercially sponsored content should be clearly labelled,
🔹 and more awareness campaigns on the effects of digital environments on citizens' behaviour online and their mental health should be set up.

Fish stocks are collapsing 🐟

The Baltic Sea is in crisis due to overfishing, pollution, warming seas, and Russia's unscientific quota-setting and shadow fleet operations.

Parliament calls on the Commission and EU countries to take urgent measures like:

▪️consider suspending targeted fisheries for some stocks;
▪️use science-based fishing limits;
▪️improve the economic situation of small-scale coastal fishers;
▪️revise the multiannual management plan for the Baltic Sea;
▪️use effectively the existing legal and management tools.

Un nouveau coin Europe 🤩 Dans le cadre du programme des Écoles Ambassadrices (EPAS), le Lycée Vauban a refait son coin Europe présentant les activités européennes de l'établissement au CDI. 🇪🇺

L'inauguration hier midi était l'occasion parfaite pour les élèves de montrer les derniers évènements et sorties organisés par le club EPAS à l'eurodéputée Martine Kemp : une conférence avec le journaliste François Beaudonnet, la création d'un jeu sur le multilinguisme pour la Journée de l'Europe et un atelier interactif sur la liberté d'expression avec Plantu ont compté parmi les moments forts de cette année scolaire. 💪
En plus, trois élèves ont remporté un concours photo à Bruxelles et une autre Ambassadrice Junior a pu faire un mini-stage avec un eurodéputé luxembourgeois. Bravo à toute l'équipe EPAS pour votre engagement ! 🎉

L'UE vise à parvenir à une génération sans tabac d'ici 2040, où moins de 5 % de la population consommerait du tabac.

Pour réduire la consommation de tabac, l'UE et les gouvernements nationaux ont pris des mesures énergiques, notamment :
- Une réglementation stricte concernant l'emballage, l'étiquetage et les ingrédients du tabac
- Des interdictions de publicité et des restrictions en matière de parrainage
- Davantage d'espaces publics sans tabac
- Des mesures fiscales visant à décourager la consommation
- La lutte contre le commerce illicite du tabac
