** SOS FROM FORMER PRESIDENT OF COMOROS MR. AHMED ABDALLAH SAMBI
TO THE ENTIRE WORLD**
I am writing from my house while the Government of Comoro has placed me under “HOUSE ARREST” on false corruption allegations and restricted all my movement in or outside Comoro. I believe this allegation is politically motivated after my move to denounce the decision of the president to suspend the Constitutional Court and his draft referendum to revise the Constitution.
AS I am writing this letter, my security details have been called off and I have every reason to believe my life is under serious threat. Evidently, the president sees my political influence as the only obstacle standing on his way towards his plan to change constitution, and finally to run for another term in the office.
Hon. BROTHERS allow me to share few backgrounds on what went on up to my arrest. On 12th May 2018, I arrived in Comoro at Prince Said Ibrahim airport and well received by members of JUWA (my political part), and other opposition party leaders.
On 15th May 2018, I was interrogated by the police force on 2008 Economic naturalization law between UAE and Comoro, which was passed by the parliament during my presidency. Then I was ordered not to leave Ngazija island, the order was extended to my participation in mosque activities including attending prayers.
On 19th May 2018, I was placed under house arrest as per attached arrest order from the Ministry of interior, information and decentralization in charge of relations with institution, reference letter no. 18-373/MIIDI/SG.
Same day, I was visited by eleven members from my political party and other opposition leaders. The delegation was not allowed to leave my house. While I am sending this letter, my house is surrounded by armed police officers, and no one can enter or leave my premises.
Hon BROTHERS, with this letter, I want to inform you, members states of Arab League and international communities that political situation in Comoro is in crossroad, my life is endangered, and the life of every Comorian is at stake as President and his government try to silent everyone, others who tried to voice out or publicly supported me have been imprisoned under false charges.
The hope of people in Comoro is placed under your office, Qatar, members of Arab League and every entity supporting rule of law, democracy and free speech.
