Ambassador E Edries meets with Souss-Massa Region stakeholders
As part of the Embassy’s trade and investment promotion endeavors, Ambassador Ebrahim Edries conducted a tour in the Souss-Massa region to meet with relevant stakeholders and discuss the means and ways of enhancing trade and economic relations between South Africa and Morocco. Ambassador Edries thus met with the President of the Souss Massa Chamber of Commerce of Industry and Services, Mr Said Dor, in Agadir. During this meeting, economic and trade and investment promotion initiatives were discussed with this Chamber, as well as possible engagements to operationalize the MoU signed between this Chamber and the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce.
Ambassador Edries then met with Mr Karim Achengli, President of the Souss-Massa Region which contributes around 6.6% to the national GDP and occupies a significant place within Morocco in terms of tourism, agriculture and fisheries.
Ambassador Edries’s third engagement was with the President of the Moroccan Association of Fruit and Vegetable Growers and Exporters (APEFEL), Mr Khalid Saidi and his adviser Mr Laraisse Serghini. The meeting was followed by a visit to the Center for Technology Transfer, created in 2005 by the APEFEL in partnership with UNIDO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries. Discussions centered around the ways of linking the APEFEL with their counterparts in South Africa, particularly in view of the inverted agricultural production seasons, and linking the Centre for Technology Transfer with agricultural research organizations in South Africa for mutually benefitting know-how transfer.
