🇫🇮🇲🇦 Pour la dernière journée de sa visite à Fès le vendredi, S.E Marjaana Sall a rencontré M. Mohamed CHAOUI, Directeur Général de la SRM, lors d’un échange consacré aux enjeux et perspectives de coopération.

Cette rencontre a permis de poursuivre les échanges autour des opportunités de collaboration, notamment dans le secteur de la gestion de l’eau et de l’economie circulaire, et de renforcer les liens entre la Finlande et la région de Fès.

Lors de sa visite à Fès Son Excellence Marjaana Sall a rencontré plusieurs acteurs académiques de la région.

Parmi les temps forts de cette visite, des échanges avec Pr. Amal Jellal, Président de l’Université Al Quaraouiyine, et M. Zoubir Bennani, Secrétaire général, autour des perspectives de coopération dans les domaines de l’enseignement supérieur, de la recherche et du partage d’expertise.

Elle a également visité l’Université EuroMed de Fès, où elle a été accueillie par M. Mostapha Bousmina, Président de l’Université, et a échangé avec plusieurs responsables de l’institution avant de découvrir les infrastructures du campus.

Des visites placées sous le signe du dialogue, de l’échange d’expertise et du renforcement des liens entre la Finlande et le Maroc. 🇫🇮🤝🇲🇦

Dans le cadre de sa visite à Fès, Son Excellence Marjaana Sall a été reçue par M. Khalid Aït Taleb, Wali de la région Fès-Meknès.

Cette rencontre à la Wilaya de Fès a été l’occasion d’échanger sur les perspectives de coopération et de partenariat entre la Finlande et la région Fès-Meknès, ainsi que sur les opportunités de développement de relations dans plusieurs secteurs d’intérêt commun.

Une rencontre qui témoigne de l’importance du dialogue institutionnel et du renforcement des relations entre la Finlande et le Maroc. 🇫🇮🤝🇲🇦

On International Day of Democracy, Finland emphasizes the interlinkages between democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Democracy is an essential component of comprehensive security, and it is enhanced by media literacy and other civic skills.

This year also marks the 120th anniversary of Finland becoming the first country in the world to grant women the universal right to vote and stand for election. Women’s meaningful participation and leadership are essential prerequisites for strong democratic societies, sustainable peace and prosperity.

Supporting democracy is a part of Finland’s foreign and development policy. Our support to Ukraine, through the Council of Europe, International IDEA and the Rule of Law Centre of Finland, helps Ukraine meet European Union standards in the field of the rule of law.

Finnish experiences in multiparty democracy are shared with partner countries through Demo Finland, a unique cooperation organization of all Finnish parliamentary parties.

Free and active civil society fosters democracy and contributes to societal openness, accountability and trust. Finland currently channels a record high share of its Official Development Assistance through Finnish Civil Society Organizations.

On this day, we recognize their work, stand in solidarity with people affected by crises, and reaffirm the importance of protecting civilians and humanitarian workers everywhere.

How can we raise the world's awareness about Finland? This was a particularly important question when Finland was at war. During the Winter War, a press room was opened for foreign correspondents in the posh Hotel Kämp in Helsinki. After the war, foreign journalists were actively invited to get to know Finland. In 1945, the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper published a bulletin about Swedish journalists who came all the way from Gothenburg for five o'clock tea.

'Yesterday, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' Newspaper Office invited visiting Swedish reporters for five o'clock tea at the Government Banquet Hall. The programme for the evening included a song performed by the Viipurin Lauluveikot Male Choir.'

In 1958, a young diplomat freshly returned from the Finnish embassy in Washington DC, Max Jakobson, took over the Ministry's Newspaper Office. He led a committee that defined new principles for communications. The committee discussed Finland's image and the marketing of Finland's achievements. The country image pioneers who worked for Jakobson lamented that Finland was largely unknown on the global stage. In a 1960 article he wrote in Politiikka magazine, Jakobson sought to bolster faith in promoting Finland's story. 'Of course, it is not nice to run into people in the world who know nothing about Finland. On the other hand, they may not know a thing about any other countries either.'

Finland's active role in global politics increased the need for public diplomacy. The Foreign Ministry's International Press Center grew in prominence in 1975 when the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe signed in Helsinki emphasised the obligation of nations to support the work of journalists across borders.
