The Stade Louis II was built in the Fontvieille district. The major works constituting this median were carried out between 1965 and 1971.
This new district constitutes a hold on the sea of ββ22 hectares, achieved thanks to the will of Prince Rainier III who wished to enlarge the territory of the Principality. If we can say that the Rock is the heart of the Principality, Fontvieille is most certainly its lung. Within this district, we find a summary of everything that makes a dynamic city, namely:
perfectly integrated into the neighborhood from an architectural point of view,
rational, in order to be able to make optimal use of all the space (ring of commercial and administrative offices, restaurant, sports halls, car parks),
at the forefront of the latest technologies and / or trends (pioneer in many areas, such as video surveillance, the installation of press desks in the stands, etc.),
omnisports, to expand the sports offer,
to international standards, to be able to host the biggest events,

1979: Prince Rainier III decides to build a new sports complex on the Fontvieille median, to replace the old Stade Louis II.
1980: End of the final general program Construction 2
1981: Beginning of foundation work.
1982: Structural work.
1983: Delivery of 2 parking levels.
1984: Technical acceptance and finishing work. The Louis II Stadium was inaugurated on January 25, 1985 by Prince Rainier III, in the presence of Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee. Inauguration

In addition to competitions of particular or even exceptional importance, the stadium's vocation is to make sport accessible to as many people as possible and to be widely open to the public
