Beautiful rocky beach located in the middle of olive tree forest… Valdanos bay is one of the most important places for the citizens of Ulcinj/Ulqin.
According to the tradition of the city, in order to get married, the Husband had to have in his possession a boat or 40 olive trees in order to be sure that he will be able to feed the family. As the time passed, the citizens kept planting olive trees, in the region of 'Bashbylyk/Basbuljuk' and in Valdanos Bay. The Valdanos bay had its other importance because it was used as a natural port too, sp
ecially when the sea was unstable when the southern wind blew or as the locals call it "Shirak/Jugo". Considering that Valdanos bay is west-oriented, after the "Shirak/Jugo", it was sometimes fatal for the boats in the bay. The reason lies on the fact that always after the "Shirak/Jugo", in this region blows a western wind known as "Punenta/Punenat" which may bring to Valdanos bay waves up to 4 meter high, which would cause an impressive noise of the colliding stones and breathtaking view. Valdanos Bay is well known as the rich fishing spot as the maximum depth of the bay peaks at around 50 meters. Its water is very clean because the its openness and water currents. Unfortunately, on the 7th January 1978 Valdanos bay was taken from the original owners as the 'Public Interest' in order to build an army base, which was never built. In numbers it contained more than 18 000 olive trees (XIX centuries old), 94 000 m2 of land which were under the padlock of the Former Yugoslav Army. The beach was opened for public in 2012 and in 2013 the "Aragosta Group" daughter company from Ulqin/Ulcinj rented the beach from the Public agency for coast administration called "Morsko Dobro". Since then the citizens and tourists can enjoy the beauty of the beach and feel the real joy of relaxing. "Valdanos Beach" is still a project under further development which aims to put the Valdanos Beach in the International Beaches Map.
