Beyond the Capital: Kochani, Vinica, and the connections shaping eastern part of 🇲🇰

Today, Chargé d’Affaires Nicole Varnes visited Kochani and Vinica to meet local leaders, young people, and businesses and discuss priorities first-hand.

She met with Mayor Vlatko Grozdanov and Mayor Mitko Kostadinovski, joined students at The Nest as they shared their vision for “Kochani 2035,” visited the U.S.-supported restoration of the Monument of Freedom, and toured U.S. company Amphenol, which employs hundreds of people in Kochani.

Each stop showed what our cooperation can build.

Albulena Halili and Goran Ilik got a firsthand look at the people and institutions that shape American foreign policy through the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

Their program took them to the Pentagon, the State Department, and Capitol Hill, then on to Iowa City and NORAD in Colorado Springs to see how Americans debate, make, and implement U.S. foreign policy at both the federal and state levels.

U.S. Embassy Skopje Law Enforcement Assistance Attaché Michael McKee and Bureau of Public Security Director Aleksandar Janev opened a Cybercrime Investigations Workshop led by FBI agents specialized in cybercrime and counterterrorism.

Cyber investigators from across the country worked on joint techniques for fighting transnational cybercrime and tools for detecting and deterring crime on the dark web. Together, they built strategies to stop cybercriminals before they harm North Macedonia and the United States.

Who were the people, and what were the ideas, that shaped the United States?

Through the White House's Founders Museum exhibition, hosted by American Corners, more than 650 young people and community members from across the country explored the defining moments of American independence. Through historical portraits, videos, virtual reality, and interactive learning, visitors discovered the stories of America's Founders and connected the principles behind the nation's founding to a new generation. Through music, poetry, film, theater, and visual arts, the third edition of Skopje Creative Fest marked Freedom 250 with a vibrant community of artists at the Skopje City Park, organized by American Corner Skopje in collaboration with the City of Skopje.

The congratulates our partners at the North Macedonia Bureau of Public Security's Cybercrime Unit from the Ministry of Interior on the successful arrest of the OLVX criminal marketplace administrator.

Active between 2023 and 2025, OLVX is alleged to have unlawfully sold victims’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) and login credentials via over 1,500 seller accounts. The existence of this marketplace directly endangered the digital security of thousands of American citizens who rely on the integrity of accounts they use.

This disruption marks the first-ever cyber operation coordinated between the FBI and North Macedonia and reflects the FBI’s commitment to working with partners around the world to protect the American people in cyberspace.

U.S. Embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Director Caroline Buddenhagen joined Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski at the "Basic Drug Investigations Training Program," which the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) implements as part of a two-year project funded by INL. Transnational criminal organizations and narcotics traffickers are global threats, and this training underscores our shared commitment to combatting illicit drugs.
