Honorary Consulate General for Sweden in Ulaanbaatar

This week, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation Per Olsson Fridh is taking part in COP26 in Glasgow. He will speak about matters such as the importance of richer countries providing financing for global climate transition and climate adaptation. Sweden continues to support those who are hardest hit by climate change, in particular the least-developed countries and small island states. One of the cornerstones of the Paris Agreement is that rich countries are to take the lead and reduce their emissions, while supporting developing countries in their climate action.

Sweden is the world’s largest donor per capita to several climate funds, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and the Adaptation Fund (AF). In 2019, Swedish climate aid amounted to SEK 7.5 billion, which is a three-fold increase compared to 2014. Ahead of COP26, the Government announced its ambition to double Swedish climate financing to SEK 15 billion by 2025.

The Vasa warship sank at the occasion of his inaugural journey in Stockholm in 1628. After 333 years at the bottom of the sea, the impressive warship was recovered and he could finally continue his journey. Today, the VASA is the best-preserved 17th century ships and can be admired within a museum structure specially built in Stockholm. The Vasa is a unique artistic treasure, consisting of 98 percent of original parts, including hundreds of wooden sculptures.

Temporary ban on travel to Sweden due to COVID-19

The Government decided today, 18 March, to temporarily stop non-essential travel to Sweden to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and reduce the spread of the virus.

The decision takes effect on 19 March and will initially apply for 30 days. This is an exceptional measure that will not apply for longer than necessary.

All travel to Sweden will not be stopped. Swedish citizens and other people who are resident in Sweden will be able to return to their homes. Nor will the entry ban apply to people who have particularly important grounds for travelling to Sweden.

The entry ban applies to all foreign citizens attempting to enter Sweden from a country outside the EEA (EU plus Island Lichtenstein, Norway) or from Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The entry ban does not apply to Swedish citizens.
