Today, we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬—a defining moment that continues to shape our identity and future.

The 𝐂𝐍𝐌𝐈 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝟐𝟓𝟎 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 was established by Executive Order of the late 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐈. 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐬, who recognized the significance of this milestone and set a vision to honor our shared history and elevate our story. We honor his legacy by carrying that vision forward—strengthening our communities and ensuring the Covenant continues to guide future generations.

The 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 celebrates this historic milestone—marking 50 years since the Covenant, the document that established our political status, shaped our identity, and affirmed our place within the United States political family.

Members of the CNMI America250 Commission recently met with Judiciary leadership at the Guma’ Hustisia to discuss an upcoming podcast series commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Covenant.

The project will bring high school students together with leaders from across the community to explore the ten articles of the Covenant between the Northern Mariana Islands and the United States. An episode focused on Article IV—addressing the Judicial Branch—will feature insights from Associate Justice John A. Manglona and Superior Court Judge Lillian A. Tenorio.

The podcast is expected to launch in mid-April as part of the Commission’s efforts to engage the community in reflection and dialogue as the Commonwealth approaches the 50th anniversary of the Covenant and the nationwide celebration of the United States Semiquincentennial.
